I keep coming back to Manny's comment - though he isn't baggage free, either … “He hasn’t been part of our team all year, and we’ve gotten this far without him…" This is exactly right. And well stated, too. What is really incredible is that they reloaded with a player like Juan Soto. Junior's been replaced. Also, Drury's really helped fill that void, as well. We've also done well without Bell getting anything close to hot, yet. Bell just looks lost at the plate right now. Hope he shakes it off soon.

I will say this: Tatis doesn't look like he's used steroids for any significant amount of time. He's not some huge dude with enormous muscles. He uses his swing to generate a ton of power through his core.
I don't know if it was an accident or not, but it's somewhat believable in his case. It's also possible that he used them for a short amount of time.

I certainly believed Andy Petitte, when that was his defense. I doubt Tatis is some consistent juicer. And their testing is so stringent now, you’d have to be an idiot to do it consistently.

That's what Cammy did … used them for a quicker recovery. Then he just kind of got hooked on "the feeling". After reading his biography, though, he had what some might call an addictive personality. He was into booze and drugs at an early age, so self-medication was a way of life for him already when he started breaking down physically.
Tatis, not so much. But from some things I've read - and also from the data about the number of Dominican Republic baseball players who've been caught using PEDs and their predilections towards their use - there might be some other influences at work here, too. He's still got some major 'splainin' to do - to his teammates as well as his employers and definitely his fans.
I think he can ditch the ringworm nonsense. Even if the infection story itself is true, just how much of the substance would need to be absorbed through his skin to show up in a sample? It's not like he was injecting or consuming it in mass quantities.

Hard to explain his spike in power numbers otherwise. When you add it being prevalent in his home country & even used and accepted within his household it gets a little harder to believe it was a 1-time thing for Jr. I'd like to believe it, but I'm skeptical.

Pedro always has an offbeat take on things … Says the Padres themselves need to share some of the blame! The clip is a little biased, though.
Big Papi has also chimed in recently… in defense of Junior.
They're getting nuttier and nuttier!

He's a grown man, and should know better. The problem is that Tatis has been coddled by his daddy and the organization. He really needs to grow up. Yes, I'm mad at the situation he put the team, and the fans in.

Per Dennis Lin's Tweet (I think from this morning): FTJ/AJP will address the media this afternoon at Petco.
Ryan, can you confirm?

He'll be addressing them from the dugout, presumably to minimize the # of press that will be there (vs. actual press conference), and will also address the team. I'm expecting canned responses personally, with an apology already scripted.

I wish that he would just say something like he was going crazy not being able to play, and that he took something he shouldn't have trying to heal quicker. Just man up and say it. No ringworm treatment story, or this, or that. It may not matter at this point, as the damage may have already been done. His career has definitely taken a different path at this point--for sure.

Noteworthy: Tatis will have shoulder surgery. Timetable lines up with an early May return.

Guessing that was an ultimatum more so than a choice! : ) Agree, from AJ's tone since this all happened, it sounded like Tatis's coddling days were over. If he had come back next year and had his shoulder dislocate to where he missed games again, not sure all the Mea Culpas in the world would have saved him.
