And it's just another year in San Diego sports. It's always something. There's always a reason why we don't get to enjoy a major league championship in this city. The Chargers were exhausted from a hot weather, overtime game in Miami when they had to go in to 20 below Cincinnati for the AFC Championship game. The Padres went up against a buzzsaw in the Detroit Tigers. The Chargers had to face a 49ers team that CHEATED on the salary cap to put together an unstoppable roster. The Padres went up against an even more powerful buzzsaw in the 1998 New York Yankees. Now Tatis does something stupid and whatever World Series hopes we had were realistically dashed. He was the last piece of the puzzle that would have made us competitive with the Dodgers, Mets, and Braves. It's always something... And let's not forget the 30-2 BB Aztecs getting beat by Co-Vid. YES! How could I forget that??? Well, I was thinking PRO sports, so that's why. But that's a great example, though, of how we keep getting screwed.

Damn! These teammates laid it down.
“It’s the second time we’ve been disappointed with him,” said Mike Clevinger, who pitched five innings of one-run ball. “You hope he grows up and learns from this and learns that it’s about more than just him right now.”
“He’s a young kid,” Musgrove said. “He’s going to learn his lessons or whatnot. But ultimately, I think you got to start showing a little bit of remorse and you got to start showing us that you’re committed to it and you want to be here.”

Yeah, this is a bad situation. Tatis has to come in next season committed to the team and ready to light it up. If he has any further issues it could be a disaster.
Could the Padres even trade him if there was another problem? Would another team want to take the risk of Tatis melting down while having such a long contract for that much money?
I don't know how they would be able to salvage the situation if anything comes up later.

I'm sure they could get him to waive it, but that would mean he would have to go to a contender, reducing the Padres' chances of winning a World Series even further. Kobayashi Maru. What a flake. It's always something with the Padres.

Other players are pissed. Keeping him on the roster isn't going to help team chemistry. Not good.

Not good. He'll have to earn it back. He's capable of doing that, but he has to grow up and get rid of some parts of his inner circle to avoid this kind of situation. His excuses only go so far and the lying doesn't help. He's still a good kid, but he's got work to do to rehabilitate his image. I don't think the clubhouse will be a massive issue.

No, he's not a good kid. That much is clear. He is reckless and dishonest. And it IS a problem in the clubhouse. The other players are clearly pissed. This is just another minor disaster for the Padres. Can they overcome it? Maybe. But there's a good chance that they won't. You have to admit that this is a mess, and the timing just SUCKS.

He is a 23 year old multi-millionaire who needs to mature. He's hardly the first and won't be the last to be in that boat. They are pissed because it JUST HAPPENED. Of course they are going to run a range of emotions. Other players were stunned, even more were sad. I'm not the type to knee jerk react and collapse in dramatics over a situation like this. It sucks for the moment. It won't suck forever. Baseball extends beyond 2022.

This is the SECOND time he's hurt the team in less than a year. We're seeing a trend here, and it's not a good one. Can he grow up? Absolutely. WILL he? Maybe.

I stand by the notion he should have been traded in the Juan Soto deal. dont need another Hosmer/ryan leaf/vincent jackson situation.

It's not the first immature act he has done, but hopefully it will be his last. If he does another stupid thing, he should be dealt with accordingly.

He's let everyone around him down, and while that's possibly repairable in time, the bulk of the work must come from him. As Manny told him last year … "It's not about you! It's not f---ing about you!" You go play baseball! Go!
The players just want to win. And they can't do it if everyone isn't pulling in the same direction. Tatis has to stop pulling in his own direction.

He ain't lookin'very bright. He's got two strikes on him right now, in MY book.
Can we get another team(s) interested in this 23 year old stud? He certainly has a high value and there are some teams that can affford him.
"Round up the usual suspects!"
Use the money that was going to be paid to FT2 and sign Soto to a longer deal. End of problem.
Another chance to swing for the fences, AJ!

1st step in repositioning who's in charge here is strongly "urging" Tatis get that left shoulder surgery now. Otherwise, I can see him FINALLY getting back next May and 3 games in he dislocates his shoulder AGAIN and is out for a couple weeks. If that happens, I think it's time for him to go while you can still get a bunch of good prospects for him.
