No Demarshay Johnson? Is he injured? He is seemingly never ready to play. What a waste. In this day and age of NIL, it isn't the worst thing in the world to have a 6'10" player who could give you a few minutes in an emergency, who doesn't mind sitting on the bench. If you replace him with a more capable player, the minutes shrink and players become unhappy.

I just don't have a lot of faith in a player that is willing to sit on the bench game after game after game, season after season when he could go somewhere else and actually get to see the court. I also don't have a lot of faith in someone who still shoots FTs that way after a couple D1 years.

He serves that purpose but how hard would it be to watch a good FT technique and then shoot a hundred per day, no excuse for that FT.

He doesn’t seem willing to better his technique or listen to coaches who I’m sure are trying to correct it. I’m sure that mindset affects all aspects of his game.

I'd go granny style if I were him
It's as effective as it looks stupid. Which is why modern players motivated by style won't use it no matter how much of an improvement it might be.

I’m going to disagree with all the DJ haters. Schollies are revocable. If Dutch wasn’t getting something he wanted out of him, he’d be gone. I won’t argue with the way his FT’s look, but doubt any of us know what work he’s putting in there. He’s changed his body since he got here and provides valuable depth. We’re loaded with talented bigs this year, but it’s really nice to have a guy who seems to be improving and is a TEAM first guy with one of your scholarships. I’m not sure he won’t be productive if needed. You don’t play 13 guys in a rotation, so having DJ if you need him and having an extra tough defender with size in practice seems to me to be a good thing.
As far as judging him for not leaving, seems a bit unfair to me. We fault a guy who LOVES being an Aztec for staying? Maybe being part of this team and university means a lot to him. Maybe more than scoring 10 points a game at CSUN on a bad team would. I’m cool with that. We have a scholly open as it is. Clearly, something is working out here.

Has Dutcher (or Fisher for that matter) ever revoked a scholarship or asked someone to leave absent a legitimate off-court reason like that they broke a team rule?

What is up with Majak? Is he going to be an RS, like Gwath, or will he have a chance to play? Seems like the scrimmage would have been an opportunity to get a look at him in competition.

There have definitely been guys Nudged (gently or otherwise) out the door.

Do you think we hate him because of the way he shoots FTs? Do you not think he might try something different? I don't think it's entirely unreasonable to expect or hope for more from a guy entering his 4th season in the program. Having a guy on your bench that's been almost unplayable isn't a feel-good story. I'm glad he loves SDSU, so do I. But in today's environment, I'd rather have someone at #13 in the roster that can contribute more. That being said, I hope he surprises all of us and shows a marked improvement this year but I'm not holding my breath.

Fisher cleaned house when he first arrived Most of the Emerald 8 didn't make it. Epps was the only one who finished his career as an Aztec. The PG forgot his name quit voluntarily after playing for Fisher, and he became a soap opera star in Mexico. The rest were nudged out the door if they already weren't out by the time he arrived
