Except for the $$$$$$ I can't see much upside for UCLA, Oregon, Washington or Stanford . They get the honor of traveling all the way across the country in order to ( in a good year) finish in the middle of the conference. The chances of them ever making the CFP in a really tough 17 team league is just about zero.

The PAC 2’s most likely path is a PAC 8 rebuild. If there is a rebuild sdsu will be at the top of the list. Its addition by subtraction. Now way that the PAC is going to have to pay $67.5M to lure 6 MWC teams and absolutely no way the MWC is going to get the $10M+ per team and an exit fee from the leaving schools to boot. There is no way they could substantiate that the conference was damaged that much, and they would have to in a court challenge. With recent precedence, I see no more than $7-8M per school paid over 2 or 3 years to leave the MWC. Boise would pay more based on their "sweetheart" deal with the MWC. That would make the conference: OSU Wazzu SDSU UNLV CSU BSU? Fresno? AFA? As for the questions: 1. If OSU/Wazzu think that both or one of Calford may bounce back quickly then you cannot have Boise or Fresno in the mix. Best additions to replace would be from Tulane, UTSA, UNT or Memphis. UTSA and UNT, being probational members, may come at a cheaper price. 2. AFA may not want to leave, the AAC is a better fit for them with the other service academies, so then do you go for something like Hawaii(FB)/Gonzaga. Hawaii would be acceptable to Calford. One thing that most definitely be attractive for SDSU: 1. 14 game BB schedule. We now play a 20 game conference schedule. 2. Likely better media deal as you are not subsidizing those schools in the bottom tier markets. 3. Likely better terms for any potential exit. We sure as hell don't want to sing another agreement that can be changed later on to keep us from leaving. 4. Much fewer games at altitude. 5. It gets us out of this chickenshit conference. And yet it Happened. The current football scheduling alliance with the Mountain West requires Oregon State and Washington State to pay withdrawal or “poaching” fees starting at $10 million for one school, rising to $43 million for four. With still the possibility of UNLV joining. In addition, each university is on the hook for exit fees to the Mountain West that could climb as high as $17-$20 million each.

I cannot find it right now, but I thought I read that our EXIT fee was around $6.5 million---over a year's notice.

You can put a lot of things into a contract but that doesn't mean they are enforceable if challenged in court. Texas and Oklahoma paid between $40-50M each to leave the B12 for the SEC early, way less that what was written up as exit fees. So, how are SDSU, Boise, Fresno, CSU and UNLV worth $27M+ based on a medai rights value of less than $5M for all but Boise, which is close to $7M. OSU/Texas were on a $32M media rights deal when they left, over 6 times what SDSU is getting in the MWC. How can it be claimed that the schools left behind are damaged by that amount per departing school? And, no, this won't go to court because both sides know pretty much what the fees will be. Still, you would be hearing Nevarez screaming "$100M+" from the rooftops right now if that was likely to be the case.
