They have more top level players … more “skilled” players … they might have 4 of the 5 best players in our game, and their guys are more consistent and dangerous offensively. We look better walking through the airport. 😆 The sad thing is they did it on short rest with one of their better starters barely playing. Our guard play has been an offensive liability all year.

The part of this - which is true - is after our run last season our guards should’ve been incredible most of the season. At least I hoped (expected) that to be true. I can’t describe how much I love, respect and appreciate Lamont. I’ve had great conversations with his dad, they are as great as people can be. The best. Where I struggle is Lamont tested the NBA, left school to go train with trainers that get guys ready for the NBA … and i was expecting- hoping - for an All American type season … and certainly an all MWC season. It looked at times like he regressed. Oh well, I still love this program, not just that we win … but how we do it and with whom we do it with. I wouldn’t magically wish I had gone to a different school and got to root for whatever program that would be. Let’s see if we can find magic again next week. It doesn’t matter where we get shipped, it matters if the guys step up and play like they’re capable. GO AZTECS!!!

A few thoughts. If you like the Aztecs but have no idea how seeding works, best stay quiet. The committee itself had us as a 4 seed a month ago. We still have no bad losses so don’t talk about how it feels like we are a 9 seed. Instead educate yourself on metrics and how seeding works. Second, this team is clearly flawed. These slow starts will kill them in the tournament. Third, so much will come down to the refs whistle. If they allow the hack a Ledee because he’s stronger than everyone else they are screwed.
That all being said, I think they have a good shot at making the round of 16 and if they do, they are playing with house money. Enjoy the ride everyone.
Bonus, mwc should get 6 teams in: let’s see if someone else finally steps up and gets some wins.

Assclowns in stripes give away fouls for ticky tacky crap and allow hacking and mugging in the lane. No wonder Lamont looks puzzled! Let's see how the MWC teams that play jungle ball fare in the NCAA Tournament where the referees call fouls on all the mugging and hacking they love to do. They are not going to have the luxury of having the MWC referees there. I predict we will fare better than all the other MWC teams that play in the NCAA Tournament.

I only saw two minutes of the game because I was working. But I kept myself updated by the posts in this thread.
I feel that the Aztecs are still worth a 5 seed. But I'm concerned about where they will be placed. Regardless, I hope the team has great practices before the first game.

So what happened to NM running out of gas? Media hype, ive never seen the statistics or facts to back up "teams are soooo tired after 4 games", but it gets people to believe BS. Its all they can do to drum up "interest" and more clicks Can we also finally stop spouting off about how playing the later game the night before in the semis is a major disadvantage going into the championship game? I think almost every single time we've made the championship game the last 12 years we've played the earlier game on Friday and then went on to lose the next day. In fact, I believe the one time we were the late game on Friday was one of the two times we've won the tourney in that span (2018 iirc)

At least to 5'9" anyway. He'll probably be eaten alive by some of the teams they might play, and like today, they could easily lose as a result. Love his heart, and soul, hate the height. He too often gets tied up in the paint because of his size, and if he's not able to launch 3's, like today, there's no production. 3 points today . 3. That's how games like these are lost... Like what happened against overall top seed Alabama last year. Last year is history. This season may end up being history, too, if a few things don't make some radical trajectory changes ...

We accomplished what we needed to do in Vegas, so no worries over today's loss. We protected our generally positive assessment from the committee by downing the hottest team in the league on their home court, beat the regular season champion by 16 points and only fell in a competitive game against a team that's also well regarded. Many top teams nationally were blown out in their tournament losses, so we're okay in comparison. Surely the 4-4 record to close the regular season knocked us down to a low-5-seed or high-6, but nothing happened this week that's likely to hurt us any further. How soon people forget.
Edit: Oops this reply was meant for Riffel's post before the one above re: Trammell. But it works here just as well.

We had plenty of self inflicted wounds … but yes it’s hard to watch the inconsistency of exactly what you described. Today and for about the past 2 months It's almost like because they call so many fouls on the guys guarding LeDee, they are hesitant to call fouls when our guards draw them, because then their would be a foul disparity with our team drawing more fouls then the other team. Have you noticed that, where the refs try to almost call an even number of fouls on each team, even if one team is fouling a lot more then the other team?

I think we are a low seed team at best. We really struggled down the stretch and except for yesterday, we are poor rebounding, poor shooting team Leading rebounder today? Trammell 7. terrible. If I was built like Pal, I would have averaged 15 rebounds a game. He should be an elite rebounder.
