The WCC is that chatter, but I don't think they'd want Stanford MWC is their best place but they would need to do it in FB. FB seems to be the deal breaker for school affiliation. It makes sense for Cal, Stanford OSU and WSU to merge with the MWC but I don't see the Cal schools doing so. A perfect example of why they are where they are today..... I only feel sorry for Oregon St and Wazzu. The Bay Area schools helped dig their own grave.

We need enough teams to dissolve the MWC to get out of the buyout, so 6.
I would vote this way
Stanford Cal OSU WSU
SDSU CSU AF Boise UNLV Nevada (but I think it will be NM)
SMU Tulane
Gonzaga for Olympic Sports
Hopefully that would get us $10-12 mil a year from apple.

I don’t think mwc teams will have much say. PAC will invite who they want. I could see only 2 mwc teams and the rest in Texas. I could see pac 4, SDSU,unlv, SMU and Tulane to get to 8. Possible adds of csu/AFA and rice. Seems like pac4 wants to keep it small and controllable, they’ve always resisted expansion. Plus, less money for media to pay. ESPN could pay 8 teams 10m-15m and save money, while getting more content instead of paying 2 schools to go to Big12 at 32m The PAC isn't in a position to "invite" anyone. Who is going to pay $18M or more to join? While I generally agree I did read an article that mentioned the P12 has hundreds of millions saved. It doesn't all go to the remaining members but a good portion of it will. That said I think a merger is much more likely.

We are assuming SMU even wants to be a part of this "new/old" conference... Same can be said of SDSU. Why join the PAC2,3 or 4? We certainly don't pay to do so. The PAC2.3.4 is worse than the MWC right now.

We are assuming SMU even wants to be a part of this "new/old" conference... For the time being, the Pac will still have a guaranteed playoff spot. That is very attractive.

I think if the 4 remaining Pac4 schools get a conference together, the CFP will keep a slot open for that new conference purely out of guilt or public relations. If they don't do it fast, I think that slot vanishes.

Their other option is...?? Stanford? Indy. If they can find a place for their Olympic sports. Cal? Hell. So in essence they don’t have other options.

Not sure why people over look UTSA if we/they/whomever are looking at SMU? Texas, 34k students, R1...they are us! Bring way more than UH, U St, UNR, maybe more than UNM? AF brings academics n football but, little else n could go indy or any number of conferences? CSU? Does it bring much or just another filler? We are not R1........,yet.

Also, if apple is still interested (at a very discounted price) they could leverage the MWC into letting the schools go for free with good favor towards a future media deal.

If a media deal is struck with Apple, won't every school need to build production facilities? I think the Pac 12 network produced the games then the broadcast rights went to the network partner. If that's the case, how many MW teams can, or are willing to invest a large chunk for the needed production facilities and equipment?

PAC West Conference Washington State Oregon State Cal Stanford SDSU Fresno UNLV Boise Air Force Colorado State Hawaii/Gonzaga SMU That’s a nice tight strong 12 team conference. that actually looks good, but I still think Stanford want no part of SDSU. Cal on the other hand has very little wiggle room, looks like B10 doesn't want them and Pac-4 doesn't know what to do with them. But Stanford may go independent. The merger Witten about seem like the only way to go It doesn't matter at this point if they want anything to do with us, their only other option is to go independent

Yeah, unless I am mistaken the contract is still for a power 5 through at least the 2025-26 season. If all else is equal, why not keep it as the Pac# and have an opportunity for an automatic bid (assuming some sort of merger takes place).
