Now’s the time to cut Wyoming,Utah State, San Jose and New Mexico but I don’t think it will happen because the MWC is going to be too nice.
The only way that happens is the PAC 12 raids the MWC and takes select schools.

What a bleak, depressing future we seem stuck with... We will be in the Big 12 eventually. This is just temporary.

What a bleak, depressing future we seem stuck with... I don't get this at all. Sure it's disappointing that we won't be part of an intact Pac-12 but even if we stay in the MW with Oregon State and Washington State added, that's better than what we have now. Oregon State probably would win the league if they were to hypothetically "join" for this upcoming season. Adding Cal and Stanford makes things even better. A BoR league under the Pac-4 banner is even better. And there's still a chance the Big 12 will pick us up in order to get a piece of SoCal. It's all good, we'll be fine.

Key bit to me: The other option, which multiple Mountain West sources said is gaining traction, is more merger than acquisition. You dissolve the Mountain West in name only to eliminate exit fees, then move most or all members (and their NCAA Tournament units) into the Pac-12 shell so you can retain its name and power conference status. Then entice Gonzaga to join as a non-football affiliate to further enhance an already solid collection of men’s basketball programs.
Sources said several athletic directors and presidents from both conferences discussed the idea on a preliminary level Saturday. More substantive talks are expected Monday.

What a bleak, depressing future we seem stuck with... It's typical for effing San Diego. It's as if God said, I gave you the best weather in the world and you want good and successful sports teams.

PAC 4 on Thursday night headed home: PAc4 waking up Friday morning to this:

How i see it: For sure in (if they want in) Cal Stanford Washington State Oregon State SMU SDSU Boise UNLV Fresno Nevada Colorado State Probably: AFA In question: Hawaii Utah State USU New Mexico Hell no: Wyoming This, assuming you meant SJSU instead of USU, and those should be out. I'd look at Rice as well.

Not sure why people over look UTSA if we/they/whomever are looking at SMU? Texas, 34k students, R1...they are us! Bring way more than UH, U St, UNR, maybe more than UNM? AF brings academics n football but, little else n could go indy or any number of conferences? CSU? Does it bring much or just another filler? Dallas > San Antonio

While adding the dregs of the PAC 12 is an upgrade over the dregs of the MW and the $10 million or so people are speculating we'd get is an improvement over what we are currently getting, the chance of us ever getting into a major conference (and the money/recruiting/prestige that goes with it) has virtually been eliminated and we'll be stuck as a second tier school seemingly forever.
