50 years of being a fan, I just wanted to be able to type that..:-) I can't believe it finally happened I remember being hyped about the Emerald 8. Thinking this is gonna make us an NIT squad. That was the peak of my fanhood dream as a student. To even imagine a spot in the national title game was laughable. Impossible. Unimaginable. Now it's a reality. Everyone of these players on this roster has this legacy of becoming the one team all future Aztec teams will be compared to. This is by far the best experience in my decades as a fan |

It's just so surreal. I haven't shed this many tears in I don't even know how long. My phone hasn't received this many texts since our wedding. All I've been able to type to friends (even the ones I haven't heard from in years) is, "I've been telling you" "I've been telling you", and well damn it just feels so good to type to that with conviction. Gentlemen....we have arrived!!!!!! I havent cried to a sports related incident since Happy Gilmore accidentally murdered Chubbs but I was very emotional when Butler's shot went in |

I’m still in shock and I was there!! I stayed up till 1:30am Houston time watching the game replay on CBS Sports Network and couldn’t fall asleep till 3:30. One of the greatest moments of my life up there with Dwight Clark’s The Catch, my wedding day and the births of my two boys. I kept asking people “did that really happen?” It was bedlam. Pure joy and pure bedlam.

And so many want to read that, and try and comprehend it, as it just doesn't seem possible. It seems to have touches of the USA Hockey team beating the Soviet Union for the gold in the 1980 Olympics. I have the same feeling as I did back in ‘80 taking on the “Evil Empire” in this case all the naysayers and haters. We’re light years away from our days at Peterson Gym after we left the Sports Arena. The NCAA tournament let alone the NIT were a pipe dream. I’m very proud of the team, the coaching staff, the administration and the fans that have stuck with the team through thick and thin. To think we’d ever be 1 win away from a national championship in basketball is almost beyond comprehension, but it’s our reality…. |

Except they didn't beat the Soviets for gold. The USA beat the Soviets to get INTO the gold medal game, where they beat Finland for the gold medal. |
