Padres now 76-70. Cardinals off tonight. Padres trail the Cards by 1/2 game (1 in the loss column). Reds trail the Padres by 1/2 game, after their 1-0 win today. They trail the Padres by 1 game in the loss column. This weekend, it's Padres at St Louis, and Dodgers at Cincinnati. GO PADRES!! GO DODGERS!! Go Dodgers! (Yes I said it) Have to keep in the back of my mind we also have the Atlanta game with a lead late. We have a great 2016 rotation this weekend. Hopefully they're a satisfactory 2021 one.

I sure didn't think that we would ever be rooting for the Dodgers this year. Maybe the Giants, before the season started.

If you're the Padres, you might rather play the Dodgers in a WC game and hope to knock them off. The Gnats are beatable in a 5 game series. (Padres just showed themselves how to do it, too.)
Dodgers could be picked off on a random day, beating them 3 out of 5 with the current Padres pitching woes would be a miracle.

Velasquez better start changing speeds, if he can. He's fooling nobody.

Given the fact that VV was DFA'd, it probably should not be hard to believe the score is already 3-0.

Bigger question is how long will the Padres leave him in there tonight? 3-0 is still in the realistically winnable game range, 6-0, not so much.
Seeing that glistening arm on Velasquez reminds me just how uncomfortable it can sometimes be to watch a game in St. Louis.
We sat in the Redbird level last time we were there a few years ago - full AC.
On an April night, just after the new park opened, it was freezing (literally 32°F at one point).

That's what happens when you have scrubs pitching for you.

Detwiler's been DFA'd twice in the past two years. Should probably happen again soon - if the Padres are actually serious about the post season. (I seriously don't think they are…)
Adams is just a train wreck. He's got his own thread, now.

Why did Nola have Velasquez throw those low fastballs that went for home runs? The first one was set up outside, and he missed down and in, but the second one Nola set up fastball down, he threw it down - and it got smashed for a home run. I just don't understand the rational for setting up and throwing a 93-94 mph fastball low. Its speeding up their bat. Get those fastballs in the upper third of the plate. It's not like he's hurling heat over there.

Padres starting pitching comes through for the first 7 innings, then sends a bullpen loser to the mound.
Festus "Homer 4U" Pagan craps the mound again in "relief", and the Padres lose another game they could've easily won.

In his last 5 games over the past 11 days, in 3 and 2/3 total innings, Piece-of-crap Pagan has allowed 8 hits (including 3 HRs),given up 3 HRs and 8(!) earned runs. It's difficult to pick out one Padre to pin all this on but he's in the running. Has an ERA over 27.00 in that time!

Really don't want to see any more of Festus Pagan or Grizzly "Hit You With My Best Shot" Adams in high leverage situations this season. And really don't want to see either one of them next season unless they're wearing some other team's jerseys.

Padres now 76-72.
Cardinals have a 2 game lead on the Reds for the final WC spot, and 2 1/2 games ahead of the Phillies and Padres.
We have lost ground in the last 10 games to every team we are either behind or tied with for that last WC spot.
And Tatis Jr is back in the OF today.

Well, this pack of losers is officially toast as of this point. Fold up the tent - the circus is leaving town for the season.
Arrieta starts and gives up 4 ER in 1/3 of an inning, 5 runs in all - the first inning. His ass is already out of the game - "injury" - and it should be DFA'd today along with the other DFA'd jerk who blew it in game one.
LMAO - who thought these acquisitions were a ever going to pan out? Might as well have thrown a few position players out there.
Well played AJ Preller and the rest of the "Padres Back Orifice".
So typical of the San Diego Padres: Your Perennial Losers.
