The fans in Left Field have been just absolutely brutal to Jesse Winker for the Reds. The guy is having a solid year, and they are giving him crap like, quite frankly, I don't remember hearing before. It's as if the fans (probably fortified by the beer fest tonight) took all of their a-hole pills just before the game started. Yeah, I heard them razzing him big time. I think they were calling him "Wanker"instead of Winker, etc.... He's a really good ball player. Yep. And that was tame compared to most of it.

Pisses me off how Machado jogs to first base every time, and around the bases in general. He almost got thrown out on an error. Really bad look.

It's excessive, so that's why I bring it up. There's been times where he costs us a run, or from putting himself in scoring position and it's not just every once in awhile. Sometimes he doesn't just dog it, he flat out quits and doesn't even make it to first base, or doesn't slide into second to try and break up a double play. It's a VERY bad look. He's known for that. Surprised, or maybe not, you'd stick up for him on this matter. It's well known and why some don't like him. And, I'm well aware that players will dog it at times to first base, but he does it way too much.

Accept a few things : He drives in WAY more runs than he takes away by jogging to first. He also SAVES way more runs with his defense than he takes away by jogging to first. It's well known because there is a lot of prevalent racism in baseball that targets non-white players. Imagine if Machado did what Votto did today.

I won't take the bait. It's well known because he does it excessively. I get it that he drives in a lot more runs than he gives up by dogging it, etc, but that doesn't mean it can't be brought up. I'm not going to make it more than it is. Incredible clutch double today to clear the bases, etc.. He's been hitting it on the nose as of late.

Hell, you can watch Juan Soto from a few weeks ago hit a popup and never get out of the BOX. youtu.be/ESEZkj-EUkMyoutu.be/XpuLvMeIk7YHe can walk backwards to first for all I care. He hustles when it matters.

You're fine with it, and that's your prerogative. I've seen him too many times also not hustling to try and beat out a double play grounder that he's hit and that's just one example of a time it matters, as well as not trying to break up a double play, etc... Google it and you'll find that Manny has a history of it, and even has apologized for it, but apparently he didn't mean it. I agree that he does much more for the team than he takes away, obviously, but if I want to point something out that bugs me, I can do that. Let's hope it doesn't happen in a really meaningful game.

Of course he has a history of it. It's not unique to him, so I could care less. I don't need to fine arcane things to bitch about when things are going well. If you look for flaws in any player, you will find what you're looking for if you look hard enough. Machado isn't even the only guy in his infield that doesn't sprint to first base, for example.

I can express what I want, bud. It just so happens that it's a lot of peoples pet peeve, when a professional doesn't hustle a lot of times. The guy even apologized for it in the past after his Manager got on him about it. Like I said, it doesn't bug you and that's fine. I'm not criticizing you for not caring about it, sheesh. It's also more noticeable when Machado doesn't hustle, because he does it not only at first base. I only archived it to verify a pattern, by the way. I don't need to FIND this flaw with Machado, because it's glaring, especially in today's game. And, I'm noticing it with him because he's on my favorite team who I watch every day. I could give a crap about other players on other teams. In the grand scheme of things, I hope it doesn't hurt us in any important games.

If you had any kind of self-awareness here, you'd realize the overarching theme in this narrative. It's a lot of white people's pet peeve because they are used to the "old school" game where guys don't jog to first on routine grounders they have no chance to beat. Bob Brenly would be proud, you know? Where else does Manny not hustle by the way? When he nearly caught a flyball on the WARNING TRACK? When he made a play in the shift two games ago from near the right field foul line to throw a runner out at first? He's had both knees surgically reconstructed and has had multiple injuries this season that he's had to play through. He's more valuable in the lineup and in the field than he is on the bench nursing a hamstring/quad/whatever else because he "hustled." Just one example, of when it actually matters...in the playoffs.

He can have a tendency to blow up a thread.

When he doesn't even give it a slight try to break up a double play. He basically jogs to second and then gets out of the way of the throw, On a single from another player, he dogs it to second when he could be on third possibly, to name a few. Of course he hustles, only when he wants to. Again, another bad attempt at race baiting where it has zero relevance to me here, but only in your head. Angry much?

It's the truth. Unfortunately, this is a narrative directed at a lot of players with the wrong skin color. That's a reality, not unique to Manny in the slightest. Your takes reek of "angry white guy" because I see them plastered all over social media. Not unique, either. Do I wish he would give max effort on every play? Sure. Does anyone in baseball? No. With the huge uptick in injuries this season, specifically soft tissue injuries, he's needed on the field.
