not sure how many more years Sidner can pay hundreds of millions to Manny and Fernando with little results. We need to win soon, not by 2030. Well, they're going to be paying both of them for at least the next decade. Manny can opt out in 2023, but that assumes anyone - including the Padres - wants to pay him even more than he's getting now. He's at least contributing at a reasonable level so far. Tatis, Jr got the longest deal - 14 years - in MLB history. He ain't goin' nowhere. And as far as the LOB… It's an epidemic … 7.89/game so I'd say 150 LOB so far is a very reasonable number. Dodgers are even worse at 8.00. But they actually know how to win close games … maybe that's why they're 14-4 and the Padres are .500… keeping them just one game ahead of Arizona for 4th place. Good grief.

We need to hear from the ultimate optimist, Ryan! Freaking out isn't my thing.

Perhaps they are trying to get to 11-12 again this season, since from that point on, the Padres went nuts last season.

They have the best ERA in baseball at 10-10 so that’s a positive!

Things will turn around soon, right? We've had a lot of bad luck thus far.

Freaking out isn't my thing. Wasn’t ragging on you, Ryan, just wanting to hear if you had anything positive. Sure. The team is .500 with injuries to Tatis, Machado, Myers, Grisham, Lamet, Morejon, Nola, multiple relievers and the worst defense in the league so far. They're the worst high leverage situation team in baseball offensively and have played really poorly situationally thus far, but could have easily swept the Dodgers with two sacrifice flies. The entire NL is extremely mediocre right now (Padres currently are a half game out of the Wild Card right now)...I think they will be fine once guys start performing like they are capable of.

And another thing. Since Jack's head (from Jack in the Box) has been installed atop the RF foul pole, the Padres are 1-5 at home.
Could we have started the Curse of Jack?

Thanks for the positives. I'd like to hear your concerns next, as I'm sure you have plenty, i.e. I seem to recall you mentioning strength/conditioning/injury issues with this team a while back and it appears that hasn't changed, in fact has gotten worse.

It's deeper than that - I really think Fowler's tenure was marred by a lack of a transparency about injury management and prevention (Not getting MRI's, not getting certain tests done, etc) and was hoping that with Seidler at the helm that would improve, which hasn't been the case so far. It's a systemic issue that the Padres have dealt with for multiple seasons, unfortunately. This is a new strength and conditioning staff in place right now - And I don't know if it's just bad luck or poor decision-making on multiple fronts. The Tatis injury is really alarming because a labrum issue is chronic and surgery doesn't fix it 100% of the time.

No MRI on Lamet. Ultrasound instead.

And...the Padres have announced there will be no MRI for Lamet. Kinda makes you wonder... One would think that in this day and age of micro-managing every pitch from every pitcher, mgmt and ownership would demand the MRI. It's non-invasive, and what, they're worried about the cost? Seems very odd to me unless Lamet refused to get one. I guess that could happen. Supposedly an ultrasound - which is what they did - can pick up any abnormalities. My degree isn't in medicine or radiology, so hopefully those with the degrees are the ones who made the decision to forego the MRI and not management or ownership. Still… and now he's out 10 days again.

Johnson, Stammen, Pomeranz and Kela were unavailable tonight. That stresses an already taxed bullpen that's already covered the most innings in baseball.

Oops, they did it again … gotta tip your hat to the next to last place team.
… and wonder when the Padres are going to get it figured out at the plate, when time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin', into the future …
