Oops, they did it again … gotta tip your hat to the last place team. … and wonder when the Padres are going to get it figured out at the plate, when time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin', into the future … 4-9 in June, and 4-11 in their last 15 games.

Regression to the Padres mean… though I hoped this year might be different. There's still 90+ games to play this season, but the All-Star Break is right around the corner. Some of these ball players might want to step it up ahead of the trade deadline, or they might find themselves on the menu - if the Padres are really serious about making a run for the WS this year. As it seems now, they'll be lucky to finish third (again) and maybe get themselves into a Wild Card spot.
While it's true that all they need to do is "get in" and good things can happen, it won't happen if the hitting that's out there right now shows up in the post-season. This guy, Gomber, pitching on a last place team, absolutely pwn3d the Padres this season, times 3, and we're not even halfway done yet. Padres can't let this continue to happen if they're serious about October. Hoping that things will turn around soon isn't nearly as important as making sure that they will.
Hopefully, Yu pitches a 9-inning shutout today and maybe one of the Padres can hit a home run in Denver. It feels like that's what it will take right now.

If you can't hit @ Coors Field, you can't hit.

Yet another pathetic performance by the Padres. Yu can't hold the lead, and the BP just poured gasoline on the fire. No matter, in Denver, 4 runs isn't going to win a lot of games anyway. It's almost a complete team failure on many levels right now. They are basically 4 for June, and we're halfway through the month now. The power outage is past critical. Maybe they need to plug in to some new electricity.
Can't beat the Stinkin' Colorado Rockies?
Not sure exactly what the Padres need (besides to a good, swift kick in the ass - which they won't get as long as "feel good Jayce" is at the wheel), but whatever they're doin' right now just ain't doin' the job …
"The Swag Chain" doesn't help when they're losing game after game, either. Makes them look like clowns. They should just put it back in the box, stop clowning around, and get serious about actually putting together some wins. These are the kinds of games they're going to wish they'd won come September…

I think Preller needs to make a trade, bring in a solid hitter, shake up the lineup and the clubhouse. This June swoon has been tough to watch, the Pads need to be careful not to fall 8-10 games out before the month is over.

I'm in agreement with you now re Tingler's clock. If you don't at least make the WC game with this cast your job security should be at risk.

This June swoon has been tough to watch, the Pads need to be careful not to fall 8-10 games out before the month is over. The question is who are you giving up on? Pham, Machado & Tatis are locks, and they're too invested in Cronenworth & Grisham long-term IMO to give up on them. Do you "bring in a solid hitter" and give up on Myers & Hosmer, both of whom were raking earlier in the year & whom you're heavily invested in financially? Nola hasn't even been here, and Caratini isn't going anywhere. We're currently 1 game out of the playoffs, and solidly still in the hunt. Is the chatter around this team today any different than it was on April 21st or May 8th, both proceeding very good runs? I doubt we make any moves for at least a month, and hopefully by that time we'll have a much better idea as to where Myers & Hosmer are at. I think in the end we'll just improve our bench, and maybe bring in another high leverage reliever, especially if Pomeranz isn't back to where he was.

I think that you are giving up on Hosmer and/or Profar. Keep in mind, Hosmer isn't moveable with his contract really. I think you trade Profar + Prospect for a 1B who can rake, and run with O'Grady and Mateo as your 4th and 5th outfielder. Or you trade Profar + Prospects for an Adam Frasier type who can play 2B or corner outfielder (Cronenworth playing 1B some of the time). In both scenarios Hosmer (and his negative WAR defense) is left on the bench, and he can pinch hit/DH/provide 1B depth. I do wonder though what will happen to Hosmer/Machado/Myers numbers now that sticky substances are going to be eliminated (mostly) from pitching. Maybe they turn it around as spin rates drop? Still, Hosmers 1B defense leads Alot to be desired, especially with Tatis at SS not being the best at throwing the ball accurately to 1B.

Honestly if Kim could adjust to hitting MLB pitching and hit for power like he did in Korea, I would say give him more time at 2B and Cronenworth at 1B.
A lot of the issues stem from players underperforming - players that the Padres are heavily invested in.
If Myers was mashing the ball like he did last year, if Machado was making better contact, if Hosmer could hit for power this year, if Profar wasnt struggling hitting and fielding, if Grisham wasn't injured, if Kim's bat was better.... I mean. So much underperformance team-wide. It's hard to separate it too from the leaguewide decrease in hitting due to foreign substances and deadened balls.

Splitting the season into 23 game blocks, the Padres have gone 12-11, 17-6, and 9-14.
With the loss today in game #70, they are 38-32, and at the fewest games over .500 since May 15th, when they were 23-17. They have played exactly .500 baseball since May 15th, and are 4-11 in June, with a -20 run differential. They have dropped 5 games in the standings since May 15th.
Things are definitely not trending in the right direction.

Looks like only a few seats still available for tonight's game … hopefully, it stays this way through Dogtown Days - and not just because everyone with an LA cap decides to come on down.

Well, just when you think you've seen it all… Melancon comes in to crap the mound giving up four runs in the ninth, and then the Padres come back to walk it off in the ninth by scoring all four runs back again.
Whoa Nellie! (Dick Lane)

I'm glad that we won, but I'm also confused why we can't get runs against the starting pitching and then our offense explodes at the end of games.

I think Cincinnati has a sketchy bullpen, as do a number of teams the Padres have played lately, Mets as well. This won’t work against the Dodgers. Padres also have a good bullpen, so opponents can’t often strike back. Last night's Reds comeback was hopefully an exception.

I'm at the game. Lovin the Tatis MVP chants!!! And, the 5-2 score right now. The fans in Left Field have been just absolutely brutal to Jesse Winker for the Reds. The guy is having a solid year, and they are giving him crap like, quite frankly, I don't remember hearing before. It's as if the fans (probably fortified by the beer fest tonight) took all of their a-hole pills just before the game started.

I think they were calling him "Wanker"instead of Winker, etc.... He's a really good ball player.
