Because they value Basketball over football, by a lot Interesting article. blogs.rgj.com/packblog/2012/12/19/report-unlv-fresno-state-contacted-by-big-east/"If UNLV or Nevada were interested in pursuing any such opportunity it would have to go through the Board of Regents. The board policy was recently changed to amend that the board has to be involved in realignment decisions." "Nevada athletic director Cary Groth said the Big East has not contacted the Wolf Pack and that Nevada would not be interested if it did. She also said she would "be surprised" if UNLV left the Mountain West for the Big East." "We're in a pretty good position in the Mountain West," she said. "The Big East is in a pretty interesting position right now. I haven't talked to (UNLV athletic director Jim Livengood), but that's a decision for them and the Board of Regents to make. And remember the Board of Regents wants the two schools in the same conference." Thank God Nevada is not interested! Interesting about the Board of Regents wanting the 2 schools together. Still, if Fresno was in, that is one more team that weakens the MWC. If BYU does accept then UNLV, and the Board of Regents, would be foolish not to accept the invite... Big If. I also found it interesting that UNLV denied having any contact with the Big East; someone is not being entirely truthfull... Hmmmm, who could that be? the president didn't deny contact, he denied he had contact with a BE official - Kustra hand delivered the fresno and UNR bids to the mwc.

UNLV AD admits to talking to Big East ADs in the LVRJ. Fait accompli at this point.

Successful negotiations for the MWC: MWC: Can you give us more money? CBS: No. MWC: Can you give us our third-tier rights so we can sell games to your competitors? CBS: No. MWC: Then can you promise not to pick up that option for 2019, so we can go out on the open market in three years? CBS: No. MWC: Well, can I have that pen? CBS: ... what? MWC: The one on your desk. With the CBS logo on it. CBS: Um ... I guess? MWC: YESSSSSSS! I luld until I stopped. BE to FSU and UNLV: BE: Hay, wanna join our conference? FSU and UNLV: Why? BE: 'cause we really need to expand in the west for that big TV contract. FSU and UNLV: How big? BE: Don't know until all the pieces fall into place. FSU and UNLV: Oh. As full members? BE: Well no, not at this time. FSU and UNLV: You really don't have a f*cking clue what you're doing, do you? BE: Well....

It is football only at this point. Now there is the same problem that Boise St had, where to play other sports. I do not think it will be as easy as some here think to start a new league.

When all is said and done regardless whether it's acceptance or rejection, I want to see what the terms were. It'll be very telling of our own future in the nBE.

I started this thread on the Realignment Board 6 months ago. I highlighted why Fresno, UNLV, and Hawaii were excellent choices for the BE. Lotta "haters" back then. csnbbs.com/showthread.php?tid=578766I have tried, but I cannot think of a single reason why Hawaii would be good for the BE. This is the worst time zone scenario you can have.

UNLV will not join the BE if it means putting it's golden hen (MBB) in the BW.

Doubt they risk a drop off in attendance with a big west conference schedule.

No, the Rodeo and concerts and events makes 4x as much - they don't see a cent of that. The rodeo ain't gonna be digging the spurs in and grabbing the reigns if UNLV bball leaves playing Wyoming and San Jose state

Their arena is 150% bigger than Veijas with a much higher attendance, advertising revenue and merchandising.

Boise State Fresno State Houston San Diego State SMU UNLV
and who?
Memphis? Tulane?
There's some pretty weak sisters in there.

This is the worst time zone scenario you can have. Seems to me, the BE is all about "Time-Zones". ...and TV money. Hawaii guarantees NBC-SG or ESPN that the last football game of the evening will be on their network. In the WAC, when you were in it, Hawaii had a Tier 2 contract with Fox SW. Don't think any other WAC team had a tier 2 contract. Before joining the MWC, Hawaii football was going Indy...and the boys from Bristol flew to Hawaii to talk about a solo contract. Hawaii didn't have to go to Bristol. We bring things to the table that other can't. Disclaimer: I am biased.
