Putting Fresno and UNLV in the Big West and Big East would be great.

How is this news? Everyone with a brain knows they have been contacted by now. I'm sure most MW schools have been contacted.
There isn't one mention in the article that they have any interest in joining. That's the takeaway from this.

if true, we'll see whether the lower nevada naysayers nut up or shut up If they ever had to join the BW the naysayers would undoubtedly just say that them joining makes it a legitimate conference and that we are lucky to have them.

They could be asked to join as full members with an 8 member western division. 8 full western members would be great. Travel would not be significantly different than the current MWC. Basketball: 14 conference games in division and 2 OOD games. Only one road game in the East is no problem at all. All other sports could be strictly within division.

Since neither UNLV nor Fresno bring that much to Football (FSU being a solid program, UNLV not at all), this really seems like an effort to lock in SDSU and Boise State and maybe expand the Big East - West Division to all sports at some point in the future. It would also have the double-effect of killing any chances of the MWC getting Boise State or SDSU back.
On the other hand, the article still mentions the MWC trying to get BSU, SDSU and BYU to come back. I would only see Boise St (and therefore SDSU) coming back if the MWC could first secure BYU (and in BYU's case, they would only go back to the MWC if Boise St. was secured).

Also, I'm not sure how Fresno / UNLV could go just football to Big East. They can't keep their other sports in the MWC and while the Big West would be a great spot for both, is there enough value to the Big West to have SDSU/UNLV/Fresno/Boise for a year or two until they all move to the Big East in all sports (which would seem likely).

Houston, SMU, Boise State, San Diego State, BYU, Air Force/Nevada, UNLV, Fresno State
Not a bad group of football teams if they can pull this off.

I would have to think having an all sports conference for the New Big East is what has to happen. That would be a pretty good western division for TV.

All Sports is way better than splitting everything up. Big West is good for Baseball, but that is about it.
