Just read an ESPN article about this scandal. They broke it down to active players who took loans and players that are playing in the NBA and took money, and players who had face to face meetings or dinner with the agent. Pope was not mentioned on the list of active players receiving money from this agent. I guess it makes no difference now that he has been suspended. Shame for Pope. I don't see how this reflects on the SDSU basketball program. As painful as the timing is (finally healthy, rotation set, peaking in late Feb), that is what we should be thankful for at this point. Could be A LOT worse (and is for many programs).

Why don't we wait and see how this all plays out before the staff is condemned for being dirty. I know that's tough for some but let's see if it can be accomplished.

I'm willing to bet you'd be the first to point out another program's fault with even less damning evidence than what we have before us....

It's always something with this team...Polee falling out on the floor...Kell's knee...on and on...just when we were getting ready to go on an epic ride to the Tourney...but if it's just a loan...tell Pope to collect some cans...pay it back...suspend him for the San Jose game...and move on to next week...it's not like he took $10,000 and a Mercedes.....

Shabazz muhamed a few years back took more money and was only suspended for 3 games by UCLA. Plus its only a piece a paper with his name on it that has no proof of the trasaction actually going thru. Im to the point were im willing to forfeit the MTN west tournament and postseason for this year.

It's called due process but it's apparent there's at least one person on here who doesn't go along with that. Since I don't have enough info on other schools I certainly wouldn't make a bold statement like others might. I will say it again for anyone who doesn't seem to understand, I'm waiting to hear more VERIFIED documentation. So far Malik is the only active player to be suspended.

Life in the almost NBA... as long as college BB is the pump, the way will be greased...

Duke, Mich St and Kentucky all say nothing wrong was done and there will be no action from them, meanwhile SDSU is the first to suspend their player making it more of a national headline now as opposed to waiting to see what some of the bigger colleges do and then announcing to perhaps make it less visible.

Really hate holier than though takes. We live in an imperfect world. No one is perfect. Why do shady people like this agent always keep immaculate records of their shadiness? Ironic. We have plenty of "holier than thou posters" who were convinced that SDSU and our players and coaches were clean. What a joke. Bummer for Malik and the program. Yes, perhaps it's time to pay NCAA athletes (but that's a different thread). By all accounts this money was loaned by a agent, it isn’t a big deal

I don’t understand the level of stupidity it would take to accept a $1400 loan from a agent that would end your college career. Even people with a terrible credit score can get a card with a $1400 line of credit.
I get the guys who are taking $40,000 payments. That could change your life. $1400 isn’t changing anyone’s life.

I feel very badly for the team, they were starting to hit their stride. I don’t know if Malik has played his final game with the Aztecs, if it is....watch out for Nolan Narain!

Those schools have unlimited resources and therefore will make the problem go away by making it a legal fight the NCAA doesn't want to pay for or deal with.

Maybe if he agrees to have $1400 worth of tattoos removed, apologizes to the university, and does 1000 hours of community service, he can get eligible for the MWC tournament.

Well, FBI or NCAA investigations aren't going to be "completed" any time soon, so it's incumbent on SDSU to do their own internal look-see and find out if they're out of compliance given this revelation…

What's the cut off amount for loans. $125.00 or $1250.00. He's suspended, at worst every game he played in could be forfeited, at best pay back and won't be back perhaps by tournament time. UNLV PATRICK McCaw had some sports guy pay for a dinner but it was after the season and he was going pro anyways so we'll see what happens here. I doubt all this was intent to except payments on the side. Pope will be out at least 5 games btw

If it turns out he took more than 1400 then sure, games forfeited, but as Ziegler pointed out, when shepard had what was deemed $800 in benefits he was suspended 3 games and all was good, a slap on the wrist essentially.
