Duke, Mich St and Kentucky all say nothing wrong was done and there will be no action from them, meanwhile SDSU is the first to suspend their player making it more of a national headline now as opposed to waiting to see what some of the bigger colleges do and then announcing to perhaps make it less visible. Yes, why do we have to be the first and maybe only team to do this and not only draw negative attention to the program but maybe unnecessarily lose a player. Michigan State and Alabama's best players are on the list along with a starter from Duke. U$C has two starters on it and I bet none of those four do anything. Why do we have to be the Boy Scouts here? The whole system is so hypocritical and full of money and lies and Pope got a few crumbs while the Power 5 studs got tens of thousands. I say let him play and if we have to "vacate" a win or two, SO WHAT?!?!?! I'd love to see SDSU pull off a huge upset in the conference tournament and go to MM. If it ends up not "counting", so what? This is all BS and smoke and mirrors anyway. The sleaze bags at the NCAA can't possibly screw everyone of those big-time programs on the list so why do we have to preemptively screw ourselves? And don't talk to me about "honor". Malik probably thought he was going to go into the draft and he took money he was sure he could pay back. He didn't get drafted and he probably was told to wait until he graduated or went pro. It's not like he stole it. The system is broken and maybe all of this will help fix it a bit.

I agree, let him play. This whole “document” is suspect, gotten in the dead of night with a screen shot that was done on the “sneak.” Where is the outrage from other schools? bull$#!+, pure and simple. Let the NCAA come after every school and put every school on the list on probation. What a joke!!!!

SDSU isn't the only school taking protective action.
Texas is withholding Eric Davis, Jr pending an investigation.
Expect more schools to do this (but for the P5, likely to be ones that aren't NCAA bound, like Texas).

Really hate holier than though takes. We live in an imperfect world. No one is perfect. Why do shady people like this agent always keep immaculate records of their shadiness? They probably keep records to extort silence and reinforce the conspiracy of cheating. Their victims are trapped.

I'm assuming this probably happened when he thought he might come out early after his Freshman year. Not a bit shocking that a kid who thought he would be making significant money soon would take a "loan" to enjoy life a bit as a 20 year-old. The schools make millions and millions off these kids so I have zero problem with the supposed "morality" of it. I think there will be so many kids and programs implicated that the NCAA can't possibly punish all of them or they won't be able to fill the 68-team brackets in March. And then they'll finally have to alter their BS definition of what constitutes an "amateur" athlete. The problem with this is that it is not allowed and for a few to break the rules makes the rules ineffective or useless. Either open it up to all athletes or none at all. The problem is that you have to set limits and those limits will always be tested. This problem is so big it will probably be minimized because all those big name schools hardly ever get punished on the same level as the mid majors.

WHY are we doing it? Because we are trying to play by the rules! It doesnt matter if you agree with the rules or not. If Malik said ABSOLUTELY not I did not take any money, okay that's one thing, but it sounds like he took the money, made a huge mistake. SDSU does not want to give the SLIGHTEST indication that they condone this sort of thing. "VACATE a win or two SO WHAT??? really? Ask Fisher if Michigan wanted to vacate a national championship or two. That is a bad road to head down. Better to get this handled now. It is hard to swallow, but if all the schools just followed the rules the sport would not be in so much trouble. Cheating is cheating. WE want to run a clean program. MALIK is gone, we need to be able to honestly tell the new recruits that SDSU doesn't cheat and we dont accept cheaters into the program.

There's no outrage because they know they are complicit, but also know they are a cash cow for the NCAA and will probably be above and beyond the law.

Why is the FBI investigating here? There is no underlying chargeable criminal offense.

Suppose he gets the money and pays it back? No harm no foul. Let's start a collection.

Here is my question: receiving a loan from someone is not a crime so why is the FBI releasing this information? It may be breaking an NCAA rule, but it is not breaking any laws. This information should not even have been released.
If the FBI is investigating someone for a crime like money laundering, do they have the right to report that the person they’re investigating is cheating on their spouse when that isn’t a crime either?

U$C has two starters on it and I bet none of those four do anything. DeAnthony Melton was on the list before the season started and they suspended him for the season.

Suppose he gets the money and pays it back? No harm no foul. Let's start a collection. A fan, or fans, paying a student athlete's debt is also a violation of NCAA rules. So that would just compound the problem.

Why would anyone mess up their career and school for $1,400?

The actual document that they show an image of on the Yahoo report states $1,400.

We run a clean program and we want to. My problem with this whole thing is the sneaky way it is being released. Obviously, this is leaked, and so every player needs to be held out that is on the list, if it is a “real” list”, every player... This is just like the cloak and dagger Parrish story. Pretty difficult to investigate when the FBI has the evidence under wraps.
