If true needs to be suspended for the remainder of the season now and repay the money.

I'm assuming this probably happened when he thought he might come out early after his Freshman year. Not a bit shocking that a kid who thought he would be making significant money soon would take a "loan" to enjoy life a bit as a 20 year-old. The schools make millions and millions off these kids so I have zero problem with the supposed "morality" of it.
I think there will be so many kids and programs implicated that the NCAA can't possibly punish all of them or they won't be able to fill the 68-team brackets in March. And then they'll finally have to alter their BS definition of what constitutes an "amateur" athlete.

Lulz, look at the school's on that thing. The NCAA is soiling its pants because that is a lot of muscle they have to feign "sanctions" on. Grab the popcorn with extra butter, this is going to be good.

I’m assuming he got the money while he was visiting with NBA teams. At least that’s what I’m telling myself because I want to believe we run a clean program.
Shabazz took $1,600 while taking recruiting trips and had to pay the money back and got a 3 game suspension. This was awhile ago but that should give an idea of the penalty. I’d assume SDSU will just not allow him to play in another game. Which I’d back 100%. A learning lesson for others and a good lesson for Pope as he moves on with his life.

The whole thing is such a joke... I've made $1,400 since last Saturday sitting on my asss doing not very much. Wonder how much revenue Malik has brought in for the University.

Interesting thing... of the 4 articles I have read on this, I have not seen Malik's name or SDSU brought up within the article. He only appears very, very small in the yahoo screenshot of the expense report

I don’t disagree, and we can justify it all we want, but it aucks that we’re most likely about to lose arguably our best player for the remainder of the season right as we’re showing signs of Life. I don’t think the staff is involved, but it’s unnerving none the less.

The amounts and names from all the power schools could a) give us some cover, or b) could make it easy for the NCAA to fck us.

This is the same feeling I had when I GOT pepper sprayed in the face with a full can and tasered in the gut on the same day.
I am hearing darth vader right now in my head:
We have seen the end of Malik Pope, and soon we will see the end of Aztec Basketball.

And look what just the "Fart de Parrish" did to us, even after the wind blew it away.

If it is a loan, how is it a violation? At most you could say he got a better interest rate, but on $1,400 the difference between 7% interest and 0% is about $98.
But how is it a benefit if he has to pay it back?

At least this doesn’t appear to be a recruiting violation in Pope’s case.
I think that as long as they do the right thing now that this has been brought to the school’s attention, the penalty on the school may be minimal. Just to be sure, I think Malik has played his last game as an Aztec. If it is, how do they handle “senior night” with him?!
