Dont be ashamed.
We care, it hurts bad to lose to SJSU.
As far as Rocky Long goes, Ive always been lukewarm. Dont love him, dont hate him. But I hate when fans say stuff like " its not the coaches fault we turn the ball over, have penalties, ect". College coaches have the ability to bring in the players they want, to coach the players they want, and to play the players they want. If the team does not perform, its on Rocky and the other coaches.

Not ashamed of the TEAM. They played hard. Effort was there. IMO you need to choose your words a little better.

If you have a successful track record, in most industries you get a longer leesh. He doesn't have a succesful track record. 12-49 against bowl teams in 12 years as a coach (not including this year, so likely 0-2 already) JYP has pointed out that teams he's been a lead assistant on were well under .500. The guy is not a successful coach. The only coach in our school's history to go to a bowl in their first season. That's more recent.

But the real point is that they did NOT make plays when they had to, correct? And that is MY point and that deficiency comes from the HC, his decisions, his coaches, his recruiting----all substandard. No I don't think it comes down to the head coach. Did the head coach allow the run backs? Did the head coach throw the int or cause the fumbles? I'm really going out on a limb here but I was also one of the few who thought that Marty was a good coach for the chargers. All he did was get them into the playoffs year after year. In football there are certain things that happen within a game that cannot be controlled. As a coach you try to put you team in a position to win. Chuck Long did not do that ever. But with Rocky we have a strong team that can run and pass the ball and a defense that can occassionally play very well. Sometimes I think you just have to chuck up some wins or losses to fate. You cannont predict or prepare for two HUGE runbacks and turnovers inside your red zone. But that stuff happens. You just have to move on and overcome and I was actually happy with the way we responded in this game. Well coached teams, with better than average players (us) do not make those kind of mistakes. Rocky knew last Monday that the Saint's kid wasn't going to play, and all he could do was hope that his replacement could kick the ball high enough to cover it. I was in the end zone and told my kid, Oh no, when the entire of the kickoff coverage team was to the left of the center of the field when the SJSU kid started running. Rocky's team lost coverage, and that has very little to do with hanfg time on the kickoff.

Imagine how us 30 percent feel that people are making excuses for losing to a mediocre San Jose State team at home I think you got it wrong. The Aztecs are the mediocre team. San Jose St. almost lost to a mediocre team.

It's not that "we are Alabama", its more of making progress towards being an Alabama. Being a "Boise St." is a reasonable goal, one in which we get further from with each passing week.

Why should San Jose be able to recruit athletes that can come to our stadium and beat us? What advantages do they have?

I understand you guys are upset, but did anyone here consider SJSU might be underrated? We took a top-10 team (Stanford) down to the wire and annihilated Davis and Colorado State. Our coach, with help from a very supportive admin, has quietly rebuilt our program from the ground up after many years of hardship. We finished 5-7 last season, but were easily a handful of plays away from 7-5. Even our 1-11 season in 2010 was hampered by a new playbook, a freakish number of injuries, and a spate of bad luck on the field that resulted in five losses by one score or less. I have been following SJSU football for a long time, and this current group is among the most talented, highly-conditioned and well-coached Spartan teams to take the field in over 20 years. Moreover, anyone who is close to this program was expecting a very close, competitive game, and was not surprised by the win. That's not a slam against SDSU, but rather speaks to the quality of this Spartan team and coaching staff. Actually, I predict both SDSU and SJSU will win a lot of games this season. Also, regarding the obvious disdain on this board for SJSU, I understand our team has mostly sucked for a long time, so I'm not surprised by it, but I would be remiss if I didn't point out (perhaps to some of your younger fans), that SJSU has now won the last three meetings (2006, 2008 and 2012), and SJSU now leads the overall series 19-15. Frankly, if we had lost to SDSU, many Spartan fans would likewise have viewed the game as a step backward for our program. Yes... our guys got off to a slow start Saturday, but they made big plays when they had to and left with their third straight victory over the Aztecs. Onward-- Reverting back to the original intent of this thread, I personally accept some of the blame for the unnecessary ranting that occurred on this board shortly following the game Saturday night. It is not fair to other posters, readers, fans, players, and especially recruits. This is a wonderful program that supports a great university. I do humbly apologize for my participation in this unproductive venting of building frustration. Perhaps, as done on other boards following a loss such as this, it would be wise for the moderators to shut the board down for 24-hrs, allowing ample time for peoples jets to cool before posting. name one board that shuts down? Losing to San Jose State is unacceptable; losing in the manner they did - awful start particularly special teams and then getting destroyed in the 4th quarter is a final straw. I support the program most, because I say get it a coach worth a damn

However, with each passing week, we are moving away from being able to say that. It is not a slam on SJSU.....just reality for Aztec fans

You were outgained 484-367, had only 21 first downs to our 29, held the ball for 22 minutes to our 38 minutes, and because our special teams are futile and spotted you 17 we lost. Simple as that. 98% of the time the team that outgains the other wins. 99.99% of the time the team that outgains the other and is even or better in turnover margin wins.

I would expect a team that runs the ball as well as SDSU did to have longer time of possession. SDSU had more than double the amount of running plays than SJSU. That is great clock management, but when the other team has a short field, or 70 yard "drives" that take 2 minutes, much of the traditional statistics go out the window. It took SJSU 6 minutes to gain 222 yards and score three touchdowns in the 4th quarter. San Jose is still learning how to play a complete game. They were trailing Davis for most of the first half and didn't score until 2 minutes were left in the half. If the 2nd half, they poured it on. They have been a 2nd half team this year and only against Colorado St. did they play a full game. Most people saw this as an evenly matched game based on this season's prior results.
SDSU and SJSU are similar in the quality of their teams right now. I expect that SDSU will pull ahead in the coming years. They have better facilities, and will have more money coming in to the program. It will take just a little more time.
