I did post the article from the SDUT on the turf issue. Golf courses, especially the better ones, are also maintained by those who specialize in growing and maintaining grass. I am just asking if the lack of cooler weather hurt the new winter sod's ability to root. I am no expert. The only time I was told I have a "green thumb" is when I owned a pool. And I will tell you, being near the river isn't all that great for turf. You end up with too much moisture in the soil which leads to disease. Just take a look at Riverwalk down the street. Not questioning what you said but about more pointing out this field is a much more controlled environment in that it was build and is isolated from the basic Native Soil/Environment with it's elevation and built-in drainage system. We are not talking about a huge golf course with trees and shrubbery that have their own issues. We are talking about a patch of grass with built-in watering system on a timer, top notch drainage and a crew of people whose job is to maintain said field. And, according to the article I posted, the most used FB/Soccer stadium in the nation. But again, they switched to a cool weather grass when they re-sodded the last time and I am wondering if the warmer weather has kept it from rooting properly.

I didn't watch the game. Did players slip because of the turf? Have you ever tried to run on a beach? It's not easy. Look at the amount of sand kicked up with each step, it's insane:

There is really no excuse for not having this field looking better then what we just saw (and have seen in the past) with having total control of watering and fertilizing with todays technology and experience. These fields are taken care by a group of individuals specialized in maintaining these grass fields year around. Just remember there is an old saying that goes "Better living through chemicals" why cant they figure out this ongoing issue? I now wonder if they are being restricted on run-off, being soo close to the SD River? What ever the issue, they need to improve upon what they are doing currently because the field is not looking that good. I did post the article from the SDUT on the turf issue. That's a classic line, and I'm stealing (borrowing?) it since I own a pool and definitely had a "green thumb" trying to maintain it before I finally decided to hire somebody.

It would be nice if someone from the Athletic Department commented on the turf situation and what they plan to do to fix it.

A reporter asked Lewis about the turf. What caught my attention is that the reporter said he watched the game from home and from the TV shots it looked bad.
I guess it needed to be asked, but I’m how could they not be bothered to attend the game?

It’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen.
I love the natural grass but if they can’t get it to look good and playable , just go to turf. It’s a joke right now I’d be pissed to play on that field.

I was wondering if it was too soon to talk about a turf field. Given all the projected usage the field is going to get next year I can't imagine natural grass holding up til Fall. Seems like they are currently changing the field every month, if not more often. That can't be cost effective.

If I had to guess, they are going to need to replace the turf twice a year not once going forward.

Since y'all are unwilling to read the article let me post some of it: The Wave played Houston on October 13 (when this story was posted) which means the field was re-sodded the first week of October. It didn't take root quick enough

It costs ~$500k to install artificial turf.
More if you want something more than green carpet on concrete. You replace it once every ten years. Since we are in the G6 every penny save is a penny earned. Time to go to turf.

I’m with you I don’t know the cost of maintaining the grass field but the economics have to be part of the equation and it will look much better. It’s hard to watch the game and it’s not fair to our players and the other team to have to compete on a crappy field.

The Wave just announced they moved this weekends home game due to unsafe playing conditions. Someone is about to get fired.
