They are not replacing it that much. Looks to be about twice per year but, given the failure of the KBG, a third sodding is being done to finish out the FB season. As for sports playing on it, American Football is the hardest on the field (especially the center of it) and next would be rugby followed by men's soccer and, last, women's soccer. Reading Kenney's article in the SDUT, their preferred turf to re-sod the field with for the fall wasn't available so they went with KBG which fares better in cooler climates. I don't expect that mistake will be made again. The new sod will have a bit less than 2 weeks to establish before the next FB game on Nov 23. In an earlier article, there was talk about using "grow lights" to accelerate the growing process and it would be interesting to know if they will be doing this Grow lights were purchased for the field last month. Maybe could be used for better crop rotation in the offseason? (sdsustoner, what do you think?)

It seems that the issue is getting worked out. Apparently they had to use a type of grass not suited to the task. We shall see. Who signed off on it and what kind of warranty did they get? (because, this was a big mistake!) Looks like it was almost a complete failure and did not workout at all, someone screwed up OR they were lied to, either way one side screwed the pooch on this one. Dollars were lost, money was spent trying to correct it, bad PR for the stadium an University. Just another mistake made by this administration, seems like more negative then positives these days. Levi stadium had the same issue the first couple of years.

Rumor is the field will be renamed "Sand Dragon Stadium"... Awesome. All we need now is two poles and a net and we can host large beach volleyball events to offset some of the loss revenue from Coach Lewis.

Anybody have an update on how the new turf is coming along? I know it might be too soon to be asking. Let's keep Kentucky bluegrass in Kentucky.

I hate to be the one who brings this up, but...
Don't we have a Holiday Bowl to be played in our fair stadium in a little over a month?
I don't really care about the rest of our games, but... We can't have this on the national stage. Can we?

Monster Jam and events of the like, should trigger an immediate re-sodding. They plan to re-sod again with Latitude 36 after those events in January. They have plenty of time for that to take when SDFC begins their season in March.

Mistakes happen. I am sure SDSU and the company overseeing the field will work something out.

We can't have this on the national stage. Can we? The turf was replaced right after the last game with TifTuf. The CIF Open championship will be played on November 23 and the Aztecs final game is on the 30th. The Holiday bowl is on December 27. Personally, I wish the CIF game was moved but we are talking about just 3 events over 7 weeks.

do not care who or what the reason is for the terrible condition the turf has been in for the players and the look it shows on TV but it has to be solved adds to the embarrassment of the play on the field and the athletic department decisions

do not care who or what the reason is for the terrible condition the turf has been in for the players and the look it shows on TV but it has to be solved adds to the embarrassment of the play on the field and the athletic department decisions Using KBG was a mistake. You need a hybrid Bermuda here which TifTuf and Latitude 36 are. Both appear to be more tolerant to the colder fall and winter weather here. SDSU has added grow lights which should help speed up the rooting process.

who ever made the decisions should be talked with as this is a very terrible look - was it that bad in previous year or two
Not going to help when coaches are trying to recruit players
would also add that with the ticket prices/ low attendance and sub standard product on the field is a very bad look

You use KBG in areas where you get colder temperatures, including sleet and snow. Kirk Kenney wrote that Latutide 36 was not available when they re-sodded in late Sept/early October. They have replaced that with TifTuf which is a hybrid Bermuda. They ahve also added grow lights to speed up the grown and rooting progress.

No, it hasn't been this bad in previous years.

the turf looks terrible
the team has blown some very winnable games and expected exciting offense is not there -
tickets are way too much for the overall product
not sure how SDSU can upgrade the bad situations

The rest of your post has nothing to do with the subject of this thread.
