I've seen less sand kicked up when I was running on a beach.
Have you ever seen so much dirt/sand kicked up when runners were running compared to any other football field? I have never seen anything like this.

His beard is worse than this field. Terrible look for a head coach. Needs to get it styled and trimmed way back. Guy looks like the Taliban. The turf looks ugly on TV. Lines are all faded and even the logo is faded. As a side note. Our uniforms look faded on TV. Lay off the bleach when you wash them.😅 I watched on TV as well. Worst field that I can remember seeing. So dull and drab. And sand flying up to their knees.

As we were leaving last night, we walked past several large crates - one filled with rolled up sod, the others full of sand. Get ready for more sandbagging by whoever they are paying to take care of this turf disaster.

If any of you play golf it looked to me like when they sand the greens. It helps in creating better drainage and fills divots. Soccer can really cause divots particularly on a field that's been overused.

I remember when there was a dirt infield at the Murph and Oakland . I remember some mid west stadiums with carpets with a dirt infield.
Though unsightly, it’s fine.

When we played Hawaii there were chunks of turf coming up everywhere because they recently laid down new Sod. Last night at least it was just sand and not chunks of grass.
The field is a mess. They need to figure it out for future years.

I have a question for anyone who may know.
How many times a week does this field actually get used? How often does turf get replaced?
We are talking about a full time staff with a basically a new facility that was set up with the latest technology and drainage with top tier turf and yet game after game this field looks BUSH League. This field has had issue after issue from poor looking grass, terrible lines and markings, clumps and or divots, poor footing, sand kicking up and just overall bad looks on TV.
We are talking about growing grass in San Diego of all places, where they have some of the finest weather on the entire planet and yet this field looks no better then a 1980's high school football field mid year in Ohio with just 1 facility guy maintaining the entire campus landscape.
This field seems to have been basically mismanaged from day one, from poor conditions to bad signage to just overall subpar conditions. This needs to be addressed prior to next year when the MLS shows up and increases usage drastically. The MLS season is Late March to October and the Women's league is April to early November plus all the other usage. This all means that by the time the Aztecs football games are played next year this will be an issue if not addressed because this field has had very few GOOD showings considering how new this place is.
The Aztecs have and are the main tenant of this Stadium and yet their field looks and plays terrible. How is it the local team seems to always be suffering more from the field conditions then their competitors with more injuries, slips and just overall poor footing issues game after game.

Did you ever get to walk on the Murph field during the season? it was basically rock hard with a green color. This coming from a guy who has a background in soil/dirt grading and material/compaction testing. Those fields were not forgiving and often wondered how those players were able to handle that pounding play after play. I know todays game is being played the same way but the players are much bigger stronger and faster which is just scary to think about.

The Murph field during the football season was mostly dead grass painted green. 81 Padres games, pre-season football, concerts, etc. take a toll.

Years ago I walked the field at Qualcomm Stadium the day after the Holiday Bowl was played. The only grass to be found was along the sidelines & in the end zones. Everything else was painted dirt. This was after a full season of Padres baseball, CIF football championship games & a full season of Aztec & Charger football games. The field at Snapdragon looked worse. Where's Steve Wightman? And the large swaths of empty seats at the 50 yard line is a bad look too.

I played golf on Willow Glen (Sycuan) a couple of weeks ago after it was closed a few weeks for reseeding. Course didn't look any difference and had plenty of bare spots in the fairways. Perhaps the weather hasn't been cooperative with the winter grasses as of yet.

There is really no excuse for not having this field looking better then what we just saw (and have seen in the past) with having total control of watering and fertilizing with todays technology and experience. These fields are taken care by a group of individuals specialized in maintaining these grass fields year around. Just remember there is an old saying that goes "Better living through chemicals" why cant they figure out this ongoing issue? I now wonder if they are being restricted on run-off, being soo close to the SD River? What ever the issue, they need to improve upon what they are doing currently because the field is not looking that good.

Golf courses, especially the better ones, are also maintained by those who specialize in growing and maintaining grass. I am just asking if the lack of cooler weather hurt the new winter sod's ability to root. I am no expert. The only time I was told I have a "green thumb" is when I owned a pool. And I will tell you, being near the river isn't all that great for turf. You end up with too much moisture in the soil which leads to disease. Just take a look at Riverwalk down the street.

Not questioning what you said but about more pointing out this field is a much more controlled environment in that it was build and is isolated from the basic Native Soil/Environment with it's elevation and built-in drainage system. We are not talking about a huge golf course with trees and shrubbery that have their own issues. We are talking about a patch of grass with built-in watering system on a timer, top notch drainage and a crew of people whose job is to maintain said field.

I didn't watch the game. Did players slip because of the turf?
