I wish the tribune would have shown both angles of the hit. The video they shared showed that the player did get hit in the shoulder, not directly in the face, although the ball did seem to hit her face too. However the live stream angle made it look like she got hit in the face, and showed more clearly the speed of the ball.
EDIT: The video they shared was from a spectator, not video during the live stream. Also, they should have interviewed the student that got hit by the ball.
But at least the article included this statement:
“A SJSU freshman set Fleming for a spike, and Fleming smashed the ball into the face of a woman on the University of Delaware team’s back line, knocking the opposing player to the ground. Several days after the event, the teammate who had set the ball for Fleming came to Brooke in tears due to feelings of guilt that her set to Fleming had led to the Delaware player being hit in the head. The SJSU player wondered aloud whether she had done the right thing to set the ball for Fleming and whether she was responsible for any injury the University of Delaware player suffered.”
So yes, a player did get hit in the head from a spike from Fleming.

Men playing on women's sports team is a sport topic. It is Aztec related because the Aztec women have played and will play again (Nov 9th) the team with a male athlete competing against them. Maybe they will take a stand this time...

This all needs to stop before it really gets out of hand, guys DO NOT belong in Women's sports. ***No Stan, they do not need help recruiting a 5 for the Women's volleyball team.

No one dare criticize this young boy's lived experience. babylonbee.com/video/man-identifying-as-6-year-old-breaks-all-records-in-t-ball-leagueWe all need to lean into the difficult conversation to discuss the intersection of sexual identity in sports, so that those experiencing distress can feel comfortable having a seat at the table to share their lived experience concerning the systemic discrimination against those who identify differently than the chromosomes they were assigned at birth. It's all so obvious.

SDSU women ain't a bunch of sissies. Yep. Our women played and crushed SJSU even with SJSU playing a man. How bad does that have to suck to lose 3-0 even when you play a man against women? Well done ladies.

Kudos for the Nevada team for fighting for what they believe in despite taking a conference loss.

Kudos for the Nevada team for fighting for what they believe in despite taking a conference loss. Unfortunately, no one is coming to save their sport. The players are going to have to take a stand, or the status quo will continue. The captain of the Nevada team seems like the kind of leader the women need: “In all of our team meetings it just kept coming back to the fact that men do not belong in women’s sports. If you’re born a biological male, you don’t belong in women’s sports. It’s not even about this individual athlete. It’s about fair competition and safety for everyone.” They need more players to make a stand, or nothing will change.

Well done ladies. No, it would have been better to forfeit. Obviously, it's their call, but unless they agree with males playing against females, they should have continued the momentum of support for female athletes. Looking back, my guess is they will wish they did something to end males being allowed to participate in female sports.

Hypothetically, imagine your squad hoisting up a conference title trophy high with half the wins being forfeits, based on a reasonable decision by the opponents. Do you even accept it? Even with having empathy with the player in question, it is quite clear this season is a big asterisk for the team overall. I understand her teammates sympathize with her, they have (mostly) been alongside her, so that brings about a want to defend. But though this may be a good lesson in sticking up for a friend facing a lot of bigotry and threats, it still contextually remains that they are defending a point of conflict in what essentially created women's athletics.

It's fascinating when those who claim that the only sports that should be allowed are the sports that make money for a school (i.e., certain men's sports)...
are suddenly the ones with some sort of vested interest in women's volleyball. You'd think it was an election year or something...
