I think that the PAC12 will now be taking applications from other schools and see who wants in and what they are willing to do to improve their athletic programs and facilities. I'm sure UNLV will be in this group and be considered.

One thing worries me. A couple of weeks ago I tuned in 97.3 in time to hear only the tail end of a discussion about a published report that said the Big 12 was planning to invite six more schools by 2026. I haven’t seen or heard anything more since, but if true, UNLV may be thinking it’s in line for a better offer. Maybe it's already been told that.
Based on what the Rebels showed in the first two weeks, if their football team hasn't reached respectability, it's damn close. There is now ample reason why a still-growing Big 12 would want them, and the same should be true of the new Pac 12. I don't know why they weren't included today.

Vegas is already a sports/entertainment destination w/o UNLV. Also, they are horrid in football for almost 4 decades. They've been pretty good at football since they started playing at Allegiant Stadium, one of the coolest stadiums on the planet. Feel like there's more causation than correlation there. They have the potential to be legit for a long time.

Seems like UNLV is in a tag along situation with Nevada. The state might not be cool with them splitting up.

They're our real rivals...maybe not historically, but in the MWC era...Hopefully they get in...Always thought the PAC2 needed to be 8 min. UNLV is superior in every way to Fresno St. Plus everyone wants to do a road trip to Vegas, nobody wants to go to Fresno for any reason. I dont get it They do, this is Phase I.

I think the Pac-2 was only willing to give up $43,000,000 to the MW.

I think UNLV and Nevada are a package deal right now.

The good news for SDSU, no more road trips to Albuquerque, Laramie, Logan & Colorado Springs. Good luck to the remaining MW folks, so expect additional travel to Montana, the Dakotas, and El Paso, TX.
However, its at the expense of $74MM exit fee + $43MM poaching penalties. Those should cover the remaining schools, and I wouldn't count UNLV out yet.

I think the Pac-2 was only willing to give up $43,000,000 to the MW. This could be part of it, though there are probably also some parallel negotiations going on right now to attempt to reduce that figure. It's important, though, that the president's email this morning was clear that no state funds ill cover expenditures related to this move … Still, they had to include that based on the addressees: SDSU students, faculty and staff. A steady 6% increase each year for the next five years for tuition, the successful contract negotiations last spring in combination with the lower than expected budget increase from the state has already produced a greater than expected number of courses axed already this semester. New hires are not yet officially frozen, but they're also not being aggressively pursued, either. Some departments that had budgeted for tenured positions have had to put those plans on hold because of all of the budget fears and instead are cutting and combining courses - the minimum 15 students to run a class this semester is being strictly enforced. Most departments lost sections as a result. So yeah, if 1¢ was going to be spent on this transfer of conferences, there'd be an uproar. Still, ADLT's email did not clarify where the money was going to come from either …

As with everything in College sports, I am sure that the media rights consultants are telling them what schools will add value. The Big 12, did their media days in vegas and the PAC held their conference tourney's in Vegas. You don't need a team in Vegas to have a Vegas presence.
The roomer is that Reno and Vegas are a package deal. While Vegas actually funds their athletic dept, reno does not. If it really was take both or none, than none is the correct answer.

Too bad about UNLV. With the addition of a MLB and NFL franchise and its already set in cement status as a destination city - including easy travel access and accommodations - Las Vegas is seemingly a no-brainer. So it's likely that negotiations are on-going there, too. ReNO, though.

Agreed, only a handful of SDSU fans go watch FB in Vegas, maybe more now with the new Allegiant Stadium, but we travel for the MWC T BB Tournament.

If that's the case, the game between the two in Las Vegas on November 30th could get a bit scrappy.
