Probably a stupid question, but when does all this NIL nonsense become an anti-trust issue....if ever?

Btw, wouldn't be surprised to see Dutcher retire within next 1 year. He cannot compete without NIL money which is not coming from the community. Possible. Depends on how much he's frustrated with this new system. Maybe he loves the challenge to still put a good team together, even though he's handcuffed with the NIL thing. We'll see.

Anyone that believes comments coming from Aztec Mesa are in any way influencing SDSU athletes is completely insane and more full of themselves than the athletes. It's show me the money...honey! We can agree to disagree. I'm not calling out just Aztec Mesa, I'm calling out all platforms where anyone who wants to support this program moving forward with factors that are more and more an issue. You can call the coaches wrong who actually work with these kids through the years, know their parents, have been in the industry longer than anyone in here could contribute. They've made it a point that fans make or break this program. Rocky Long made it a point, Steve Fisher made it a point, Dutcher made it a point, so I'll side on their professional perspective on this subject since they interact with the players more than anyone here. I would agree, a passion-filled fan base is essential for a collegiate sports program to succeed...... A passionless fan base gives a program no chance to compete! We're talking $$$$$$ now......

This is disheartening. Just when it feels like we've laid groundwork to "escape" the mid-major pejortive, AND be a consistent and legitimate contender in the March Party, we find that the punchbowl has turds-in-ice cubes, that have now thawed. "They" want us back in that "box".

It's a crime against the fundamental principals of 'college sports / student athletes', but SDSU alone isn't the target...

When coach calipari went to meet with the Arkansas team they had ONE player on the roster, ONE. I think SDSU will be fine. But this is the new risk if you develop high school players, you may lose them. Saunders was a soft 4, really more a three. We will find players to replace him, hopefully ones that can rebound. But acclimation into the system and culture might be lacking

I couldn't find a website with the data point of exactly how many players are left in the portal. I went with the Top 25 to show that roughly 60% of PFs who have entered the portal have already signed with a new team. I didn't think it was worth my time to go through the top 250 PFs and tally them up. And sure: there's still some good players left in the portal that would fit into our team. But for every 1 good player still in the portal, there have been 1.5 guys who have already signed. I disagree with this last bit... I think there are still a TON of great PFs out there. And SDSU is cetainly a top 20 program based on the last two season, with a very strong chance at returning to the Sweet 16 with 1 or 2 key additions / replacements. The thing is what has been revealed by this NIL stuff is that most kids don’t care one bit among the program, they care about the paycheck. When you factor in NIL we aren’t a top 20 program for these guys. We are more like a top 50-60 program.

Probably a stupid question, but when does all this NIL nonsense become an anti-trust issue....if ever? Why would an open market place be anti trust? Bigger question is how quickly does this lead to unionization and collective bargaining soo the schools can regain some certainty. There are still court cases pending that could blow this up further

Ironically, "name and likeness" are gonna take a big hit now as no one is going to by anyone's jersey, t-shirt, etc. with the threat of them leaving ASAP for $$$. Maybe start selling jerseys with Velcro lettering so the name can be changed as players come and go.

Man, if Byrd and/or Reese hit the portal too, that might be the beginning of the end. The end has already begun.

Don’t think I could be much more angry than I am right now. I have been a constant supporter of Elijah through the thick and thin of his being an Aztec. Today changed everything for me. He disrespected, in order of significance, (1) his teammates, (2) Dutch, (3) SDSU and (4) us fans and alumni. He has put the program at risk by waiting until the last possible moment entry to the Portal. How is Dutch supposed to fill that hole with what currently remains in the Portal pool? I am so disgusted with the whole nature of the new “system” that I no longer know what the “right” thing is for me to do. I want to be a good guardian of my school, but I no longer have a clear vision of what that means. Maybe if I chill for a day or two things will be a little more apparent. At this moment nothing is clear except that money controls everything and everything is bought and paid for with the foul stench of greenbacks. Yes, loyalty is out the door, for most, with this new structure. Most of them will now be playing more for money, than anything else. It's very, very sad. The days of people saying, "I like College sports A LOT more than Pro sports, because they're Amateurs, and have a sense of School Pride, and Loyalty, etc, are out the door. How can a player get hyped about their current school when they'll only be thinking about whether or not they should transfer out after the years over, and get more money elsewhere. I don't think it will really matter to many players whether they go to a school who had a losing record the year prior, and will stink again, since it will only matter how much money they'll make from said school. Big bummer. Like I said before, you can't look forward to the next year after the season is over, because you don't know who's coming back, especially for a school like SDSU. Friggin A. That's been me for a very, very long time. I'm not out the door yet, but I'm keeping a close eye on it just in case.

How many nba super teams don’t go far in the playoffs?!? There is a lot of quality in the portal after these programs over spend for marginal stars on good G5 teams (Parrish, Saunders). KJ performed well last year. My guess is that Parrish, butler and sanders will under perform and we won’t be such a target for the NIL agents

The sky isn’t falling, I believe Saunders made an educated decision and decided to go where he can get the playing time he’s looking for. This I think says something about Mr Comptons ability, also Magoon, and new 6-10 PF commit this week.

Dutchers recruiting this year so far- 2 PF rebounding prospects from the portal, Maddy and Jared, simple fact is UConn killed the Aztecs on the boards, Dutchers telling the current big men we need rebounding, either they suck it up and improve or get out of the way.
