All these guys transferring can go F themselves. I hope they don’t think they can come back to SDSU. I know the simps will welcome them back but they should feel real uncomfortable with they think about coming back to San Diego.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic, but either way my answer to your question is NO. I really hate to say it because Butler gave me the greatest Aztec sports moment of my life, but that goes for him also. If you finish your college career as anything but an Aztec I don't believe you should be considered an Aztec for life. I agree. He was once an Aztec, but not for LIFE. Pretty simple to me. It's right there in the wording for someone to decipher. Key word, "Life." 99% of the players could care less about " Aztec for Life"! Just the reality..... It's more a term for fans to wax poetic about the good ole' days of yesteryear.....

I'm just waiting for some sort of an announcement concerning Byrd. I REALLY hope I'm wrong. Someone that I know called me to tell me that. I thought it was a joke and then I logged in to see the update on Saunders. Now, I don't know what to believe any longer. I use to think the "culture" and "family" would help with retaining players. Now, I don't think that really means as much as it use to. Money trumps all. Honestly, I remember being 18, 19 and 20 years old without a pot to piss in. I don't blame these young men for a minute and I would jump at the money as well. All of these folks talking about "legacy" and stuff is great, but that don't pay the bills or help mom and dad. I wouldn't hesitate to take the money and run. Grown azz men on here talking about legacy and shite. Come on and think practical and not with emotion. We are all upset and bothered by it. But we can't blame these young men for a minute. It isn't personal and just business. BINGO, my friend. The only thing I would be hesitant to do is call them an Aztec for "LIFE." They weren't here for the duration (Life). Former great/good Aztec, or whatever adjective you want to use towards them is fine to me, but not an Aztec for Life. I understand if someone has a different OPINION on it, but that's how I see it. I also completely understand a player going for that money. They don't know if they're going to get hurt after one year, or if their family needs the money, etc.... I get it.

Yes, I think that's probably true. No skin off their backs if they're not called an Aztec for Life for some. They would probably say, "Let me show you my bank account."

Saunders seems like a good kid, someone who I was happy to have on the team.
In purely basketball terms, his loss isn't that big a deal. It seems like the coaches recruited a kid with an NBA-ready physique who could bang inside. Instead, the kid wanted to play on the perimeter and shoot threes, and develop and display his outside game to eventually make the league. In short, he wasn't a good fit for the Aztecs program.
Losing Byrd would hurt badly, if that comes to pass.
I hate this crap, too, but we're going to have to figure out a way to prosper in this environment until common sense returns to college athletics.

After you get momma bear pissed off, don't expect her to encourage her child to be very motivated to return to the fans who called her son out online, and she had to come and defend him. This is another factor in the transfer portal is everyone here and what you say online. Don't think for a second players are not getting feedback from any part of the internet regarding them. "Kids hear it all", as Coach Rocky Long said. He made his decision to leave for whatever reason, and now it's time to find someone who wants to be here. Maybe be mindful to what you say online or say it with your open your wallets when you piss them or their parent's off after they've decided to leave to buy a replacement. Man, San Diego is as tame as it comes either online from fans, around town from fans, or the Journos. These players want the bag and the limelight, but not what comes with being semi-pro, criticism. If Saunders bolted because he was benched and took criticism, then his rebounding was not the softest part of his game. Call it whatever way you want to, but don't be disappointed when players leave and you need to open your wallet to buy their replacement who is not "soft". No pro player takes trash from fans in the seats, and if it's enough, the player can have the fan removed from the venue. Now the college players get their turn. Dutcher recruits players to this program for a motto, an idea, and a way of life. Aztec For Life. Family. Healthy families don't talk $h1t about one of their own struggling.
The point is online opinions have an affect on this program.

I have never heard anyone ever booed.

I am indifferent about NIL, I just hope everyone who has been banging on the drum is prepared for the logical next steps. I wish Butler, Saunders, and Parrish the best. But criticism and sports go hand and glove. That criticism will intensify as they are now Semi-Pro athletes. State is going to need to find a way to navigate these new waters. Parish, Waters, and Saunders are leaving either for more money or more playing time. I would wager criticism is a factor but minor, JMO.

This is funny Micah Parrish sounds off on Aztec fans and tells them to put up more money.
I’m not mad at the players for leaving for $. The system sucks for mid-major teams. Our dream of becoming another Gonzaga in the west are done.
I do find it funny that a college player is whining to fans to donate more money. It’s a crazy world.

Then get ready for a huge exodus because according to society's perspective, the younger generations are all soft and entitled. That is spot on. NIL was the beginning of the end of my interest in college sports, especially being the fan of a mid-major. Losing 3 players to the portal from a team that won 7 NCAA tournament games over the past 2 years because we can't afford to pay them competitively shows how far the gulf between us and other schools is becoming. We could very will sink down to irrelevant and that just blows.

Do you realize western civ's boomers have said this about the youth of their time since Plato? Including your generation when you were young

Anyone that believes comments coming from Aztec Mesa are in any way influencing SDSU athletes is completely insane and more full of themselves than the athletes.
It's show me the money...honey!

im bummed about this one. He was ready to have a break out year. He had his lumps and was starting to come on. I penciled him into the starting lineup and he was a good fit. Seems like we will be starting a freshman so we will definitely have some growing pains.

You can’t have your cake and it eat it too.

SDSU would need 10,000 alums to drop 40 bucks to keep Parrish. And that would be just ONE player!

We can agree to disagree. I'm not calling out just Aztec Mesa, I'm calling out all platforms where anyone who wants to support this program moving forward with factors that are more and more an issue. You can call the coaches wrong who actually work with these kids through the years, know their parents, have been in the industry longer than anyone in here could contribute. They've made it a point that fans make or break this program. Rocky Long made it a point, Steve Fisher made it a point, Dutcher made it a point, so I'll side on their professional perspective on this subject since they interact with the players more than anyone here.
