Well at least I'll probably have more emotional energy, time availability and discretionary income in my life as my Aztec obsession slowly fades into oblivion.
Just think how freakin' close we were to getting into the PAC-12 and getting on the other side of all of this.

A whole lot of us predicted way back when NIL and transfer rule changes were first announced, that it would ruin college sports eventually. Who knew it would happen this quickly though? Money and greed ruin lots of things.

Man since Chris Acker took the job at Long Beach our HC in waiting isnt able to keep the roster together. You just love to take shots at Velazquez. As if this has anything to do with him. What's your beef with a dude who's been paying his dues for what...25 years? It seems there are bigger fish to fry today.

Didn't see this one coming but it is what it is. If Gwath is everything they say he is then the team should be ok without Saunders.

I really don't think any of the players at the end of the bench will be criticized by the blue bloods fan base...$500K/year is chump change to these programs...and since these teams can go 18 deep (13 scholarship players plus 5 highly compensated "walk-ons") it won't matter to players never getting on the court since they are being paid well to sit on the bench...
The best thing the Aztecs can hope if that a long-term contractual NIL deal can be cut with incoming players forcing them to remain as an Aztec for 4-5 years (but this might not cut mustard with the players' agents who are looking for short-term deals if the players' stock rises in the future)

We definitely can't get real excited about a team, until the dust settles. Sucks. The Aztecs are going to have to start selling programs at the games again. I can just hear the hawkers calling "Get your programs here. You can't tell the players without a program." Yes. Ridiculous.

It’s hard to really even care deeply about the sport anymore. Essentially we will just have a mostly new team year to year. Not fun at all. Agree totally. I also find it much harder to care about the players if they're just going to split. This. Big time. It definitely brings it down a notch. I'll definitely root like heck during the season, but once the season ends I'll no longer, right away, start envisioning the teams potential for the next year. Who knows until the very last minute, nowadays. Sheesh. It takes a lot of fun out of it.

Aztec for life…am I right? 🤣🤣 I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic, but either way my answer to your question is NO. I really hate to say it because Butler gave me the greatest Aztec sports moment of my life, but that goes for him also. If you finish your college career as anything but an Aztec I don't believe you should be considered an Aztec for life.

After 28 years of seasons tickets, I wonder whether this whole clusterf*ck of a system is worth it any more. I'm actually more sad than mad. I go back a lot further than than and am starting to have the same thoughts. Agree with more sad and mad. Extremely sad in fact.

It seems like this is how it's going to go for us going forward. Player has great season, and then player is promptly gone next season.
For the good/great players, they're essentially here on a one year contract. Gone the next. Gosh I hope it doesn't happen like that. It seems as though you only have to be mediocre with some upside to get more dough than SDSU can dish out.
REALLY sucks.

A whole lot of us predicted way back when NIL and transfer rule changes were first announced, that it would ruin college sports eventually. Who knew it would happen this quickly though? Money and greed ruin lots of things. Agreed, I remember early last year (when Keshad left-and told not to speculate his family needed the money lol) talking about the struggles SDSU will have with NIL. I was told here that wasn't an issue because SDSU had one of the highest NIL packages in the MWC. Well obviously it's not the MWC that State is competing with! Butler was blasted for leaving "late" in the portal hurting Dutch in replacing him. Well Saunders is also leaving late making his replacement in a smaller pool. BYRD will be the Captain, leader of the team next season. BRYD is/was roommates with Saunders. I would not be surprised one bit if BRYD leaves this year or for sure next year. I was not upset with Butler leaving, he gave SDSU four years & a Championship game. Saunders is doing what is financially fiscal for him. This is the current state of the NCAA.

Byrd to UCONN? Say it aint so I'm just waiting for some sort of an announcement concerning Byrd. I REALLY hope I'm wrong. Someone that I know called me to tell me that. I thought it was a joke and then I logged in to see the update on Saunders. Now, I don't know what to believe any longer. I use to think the "culture" and "family" would help with retaining players. Now, I don't think that really means as much as it use to. Money trumps all. Honestly, I remember being 18, 19 and 20 years old without a pot to piss in. I don't blame these young men for a minute and I would jump at the money as well. All of these folks talking about "legacy" and stuff is great, but that don't pay the bills or help mom and dad. I wouldn't hesitate to take the money and run. Grown azz men on here talking about legacy and shite. Come on and think practical and not with emotion. We are all upset and bothered by it. But we can't blame these young men for a minute. It isn't personal and just business.

It's right there in the wording for someone to decipher. Key word, "Life."

However, if we can't keep the players to get old that is going to be a bigger problem moving forward.
