Sadly, at the moment it seems to be. There's a lot of people out there who are voting for him and not thinking about the points you brought up, because they remember that before COVID hit, the Country was in pretty good shape economically and with employment, etc.... They also tend to forget how divided America became under his watch. It's really a sad time in our history, when all we have to choose from is two geriatrics, who have a lot of flaws. Yes I know, one more than the other. |

You don't have a problem with Judge Cannon in Florida ruling on motions that deliberately favor Trump, it seems. So it's just *this* judge. Were Trump's due process rights violated? No. Was Trump held in contempt in accordance with state law? Yes. Was Trump allowed to speak to reporters daily and hold de facto campaign speeches? Yes. Why did Donald refuse to testify, after saying for weeks he would? His defense was terrible. Putting Costello on the stand was a fatal misstep. Todd Blanche blew the closing argument. The *evidence* (of which Trump admitted to publicly outside the courthouse) was the difference. You live in an alternate universe. Trump is now a felon and he's screwed in DC and in Florida, once Judge Cannon is bounced out of town. |

I'm not "thrilled" with this verdict at all.
Am I happy that justice was delivered? Sure. Do I hate that this case was the first to go to trial? Yes.
The fact is if Judge Cannon wasn't delaying the documents case in Florida for months, we could be talking about obstruction of justice and serious national defense implications that could be a terminal prison sentence.
The "system" has allowed Donald Trump to stay free his entire life.

Another thing I can't wrap my head around:
I'm assuming aardvark would advocate for the DOJ or local prosecutors to do nothing, to not charge Trump with anything on any matter, regardless of the severity.
Pretend this case didn't exist at all, for a second.
That would mean the DC case could move forward, the documents case could move forward in Florida and the Georgia electors case could continue.
Very, very shortly, Trump will gain access to classified information again, national security briefings again and highly sensitive intelligence again. If he wins, he gets the nuclear codes again. A president who tried to overturn an election by force, credibly accused of stealing national defense information....has the opportunity to do it all over again.
So is it specifically this case, which the media has misrepresented throughout? Or is Trump just plainly above the law in general?

Of course we know why trump didn't take the stand. He's a pathological liar. He's written about it in books and his mantra is "deny, deny, deny". The scary thing is I beleive he could pass any lie detector test. He basically has no conscience about his actions.

If it was in June, you'd say it was election interference, too. Or August. Or any date, really. The defense asked for a date in mid-July. It's not election interference, there's no election on July 11th. They asked for the date because Trump has to go to Florida for more crime consequences shortly thereafter. You know, in the case that was indefinitely postponed to help him. |

"Nothing that happened in that courtroom today is good for this country" or "Never had the chance to vote for a "convicted felon" before"? And why not have a conversation? That reaction is emblematic of where we're at as a society now, no one wants to have good old fashioned rhetoric and debate anymore, it's FU, this is how it is (which reminds me of the guy we're talking about).
