History has been made: The first criminal trial of a former president in our country's history takes place today. Jury selection is underway this morning in Manhattan. Trump allegedly fell asleep during his court appearance, per multiple reports from press inside the courthouse. The judge in the case issued a warning: If Trump didn't appear in court daily, a warrant would be issued for his arrest. The prosecution is trying to enter evidence that Trump had an affair with a former Playboy model while Melania Trump was pregnant. Trump stands accused of falsifying business records in the state of New York, a Class E felony.

Jurors in this trial will be kept anonymous, identified only by a letter/number combination, to prevent tampering and intimidation. A hearing has been scheduled for the 23rd to determine if Trump will be held in contempt for violating the gag order. He reportedly made a Truth Social post from inside the courtroom.

Yes, just the affair itself.

How can anyone watch this and feel like you're not being conned?

Sadly, because of people like this, I suspect Trump will never be convicted, regardless of the evidence. They could have video of him doing it, they could have him confessing to it, and his supporters would still vote to acquit. It's a cult, and Donald Trump is their cult leader.

There is a very good chance that you'll get 10-2 or 11-1 to convict and the holdout(s) won't listen to reason or care about the evidence. Then Trump walks, and we're in a worse place than we were before. It could happen. I've been concerned about that for months.

I'm pretty sure that's considered jury tampering by Travis and he very well (and hopefully) could be prosecuted.

In fact, on the list of worries, that belongs at the bottom. Only one of the trials begins before the election. That is by far the biggest concern.

Six jurors have been sworn in. The back and forth between the attorneys and the judge in the jury selection process is always fascinating to me, as someone who avoids jury duty like the plague.

I love jury duty. I was on a case last year. Of course, I get paid jury leave and I love the 90 minute lunch breaks.

The anticipation is that the rest of the jurors can be seated in time for opening statements to begin Monday morning in the criminal trial of a former president who's also the current betting favorite to be the next president.

I assume the musician is watching this.
Just in case it isn't clear:
Alina Habba is quite stupid. The trial is in New York because the alleged crimes took place in New York and Alvin Bragg is the DA in...Manhattan. Alina Habba is really, really stupid.

It gives one a new appreciation of how difficult it is, e.g. I hadn't ever served prior to the OJ trial and I couldn't fathom how they couldn't find him guilty. After serving now four times (once as foreman) I now understand all the nuances involved. Jury/judge instructions alone can turn what seems like a no-brainer/slam dunk case into a complex clusterF.

A seventh juror was sworn in right at the end of the day. 11 more to go.
