Per Yesterday's SDUT; Details have emerged for the Las Vegas NIL event, which features eight schools initially, with potential growth to 16 in the coming years. Each participating team will receive $1 million, with an additional $1 million prize awarded to the champions.
Among the schools involved in discussions for the inaugural tournament is San Diego State with others mentioned including Duke, Kansas, Alabama, Oregon, and Syracuse. However, logistical challenges arise as NCAA rules permit teams to participate in only one nonconference multi-team event per season, with most already committed for the 2024-25 season.
Meanwhile, the Acrisure Classic Basketball Tournament is set to undergo significant changes for its second year, hosted in the Palm Springs area. The Aztecs are currently committed to playing in this local California MTE event.
The 2024 edition will feature 12 men's teams and four women's teams, competing in four different four-team mini-tournaments.
These men's teams will be split into three groups: the Acrisure Classic group (including USC, San Diego State, Arizona State, and St. Mary's), the Acrisure Invitational group (featuring TCU, New Mexico, Santa Clara, and one undecided team), and the Acrisure Holiday Invitational group (comprising SMU, Washington State, Fresno State, and Pepperdine).
Hopefully, there is still time to work out logistics.

Also in a decisive but poor move (IMO), The Mountain West declared to implement a 20-game conference schedule for men’s basketball, effective from the 2024-25 season onwards.
Asserting its so-called “strategic vision”, the conference emphasized that the extension of the conference schedule from 18 to 20 games is in direct alignment with its overarching objective: to optimize NCAA Tournament bids, aiming for the highest seed placements achievable., "The 20-game schedule will ensure each MW school engages with every conference opponent twice, fostering equitable competition with games hosted both at home and on the road." The ACC has since reduced its conference schedule from 20 to 18 to strengthen its OOC schedules, it's not known if the MW will follow.
While the coordination between the NCAA and member schools remains ongoing to iron out the coordination for MTEs, our attention turns to the 2024/25 OOC games committed by the Aztecs.
San Diego State embarked on a home-and-home series with Gonzaga, starting with a memorable victory in Spokane, where the Aztecs won 84-74 in Spokane. The rivalry concludes with the return leg scheduled at Viejas Arena during the upcoming 2024/25 season.
Additionally, the Aztecs anticipate the rematch with UC San Diego at Viejas Arena. Historical dominance is evident as SDSU boasts a formidable 13-game winning streak against UCSD, a streak tracing back to 1969. Notable is the evolution of competition dynamics, as evidenced by the Aztecs' commanding 45-point victory in 2001 as opposed with the narrow 63-62 win last season in La Jolla.

I'm reasonably confident that our prior home-and-home agreements with BYU, Grand Canyon, and Stanford have come to an end. Nonetheless, official confirmation is prudent. Additionally, as the Multi-Team Events (MTEs) are finalized, it becomes crucial to coordinate additional games. These should include a mix of matchups from the West Coast Conference (WCC), Big West, and former PAC-12 teams. Assuming that PAC teams in the Big 10 and Big XII will schedule West Coast games against the Aztecs, in the past have been an issue with USC/UCLA/Arizona.

There are so many loose ends to be determined, between the NIL game and the Acrisure Classic in Palm Springs. But, if the NIL tournament adds $1,000,000 it's easy to prioritize the venue.

I want into that NIL event, we need the scratch.
We should always play Gonzaga once a year at alternating venues but I am not sure Few wants what we are cooking.
Arizona is another school we should play once a year and learn to slay.
No more St. Katherine's need apply.

There are more questions than answers, so I lifted some of the main points from SI.com. www.si.com/fannation/name-image-likeness/news/new-mens-college-basketball-event-to-offer-2-million-in-nil-deals-matt9According to On3 Sports, each team invited would get a $1 million guarantee in NIL money, which would be shared either with the school’s collective or NIL arm. The money would be shared with the players of that team.
The tournament’s winning team would get another $1 million in NIL funding.
This isn’t the first time this has been done. Last year’s College Basketball Invitational offered NIL payouts to players — but not on this level.
For that reason, some of the sport’s best teams may be extended an invitation. On3 reported that Alabama, Duke, Florida Atlantic, Houston, Kansas, Oregon, Rutgers, San Diego State, St. John’s, Syracuse, and Virginia are all on the list of potential participants.

I think these are committed but someone can say if incorrect: vs Grand Canyon vs Gonzaga vs UC San Diego
Dutcher has made it clear his top priority is being in the nil event

I doubt we would continue with the GCU series moving forward. As far as BYU, they are in a stronger position in the Big XII and may reduce their need for high-profile OOC games compared to schools like GCU and SDSU. With a focus on conference matchups, BYU can tailor their schedule to maximize its postseason opportunities based on its performance/wins within the Big XII. We're still going to need to schedule high-profile OOC games in 2024/25 and beyond. The $1,000,000 pay-out is our #1 focus for us moving forward.

We are in the NIL tourney. Dutch announced to the team in Boston. Not sure what happens with the Acrisure Classic. We only have one home vs Gonzaga the others have expired.

With 20 conference games, that does doesn't leave much room for games.
men's basketball programs can schedule up to 28 regular-season games and participate in an MTE that has up to three games, or 29 regular-season games while participating in an MTE that has up to two games, for a total of 31 games in either scheduling option.
So with an MTE, you are looking at 11 OOC games down from 13 last year.
PLNU will be back on since they will not count in the NET Gonzaga will be at Viejas 3 MTE games
That leaves 6 games to be scheduled. If I had to guess, it will be 3-4 BW/WAC home games and then 2-3 new H/H with upper level teams.
