Red Auerbach is right up there. ************* It helped that he had the best players in the free world thanks to Sam Gilbert. The father of NIL! Small world in that Mrs. Gilbert was an English teacher at my high school (Palisades High School).

And in New Mexico's defense, NC State was also a Final Four team. New Mexico didn’t play NC State, they got worked by Clemson. Ugh, age is not treating me well! Good catch my friend, thus NO excuse for the mangy Lobos....

If it’s any consolation (and it’s not), SDSU gave UConn a better game last year than Purdue has so far.

Im just grateful we didn’t see UConn last year until the championship. Team has been elite at an all time level.

Purdue was a good team. Edney unstoppable. Uconn best team in my lifetime. The team that beat the Aztecs last year was not as good as the team Uconn had this season, this is no slight. Still, its nice to look at the margin of victory, Uconn won tonight by 15, and last year by 17 against the Aztecs.

As much as I wanted SDSU to beat UCONN in the Sweet 16, I did put money down on UCONN when I was at the MWC Tourney in Vegas. The odds then was UNCONN 5-1, Thanks UCONN.

AZZZZZtecs of 2023 fought back hard in the 2nd half of their game. Crazy that some guy named LeDee only got to score 7 points in that game for SDSU. Mensah had 1 point. One. Probably crazy to think about what might've been… but …

That said, I’ve never been more sure of any result in any game ever that UConn would win and cover in both F4 games, and almost as confident that Purdue would cover vs NCSU. I’ve told several friends going into Saturday, they’ve been blowing my phone up. A couple based on my convictions placed decent sized bets and cleaned up. Oh well. When do we nail down some portal transfers?!!

Hmmm. Dan Hurley for years was a defensive minded coach until two summer ago when he hired a offensive minded assistant coach and made his other assistants focused on learning multiple offenses. He went from a traditional 3 guard 2 low post offense to more of a 4 perimeter player and 1 low post player. He modernized his offense with a bunch of ball screens and shooting. Two years later he wins back to back championship. My point is programs that are reluctant to change offensively will continue to falter the NCAA tournament. Kansas continues to run high low from the 70s, Kentucky dribble drive from the early 2000's etc etc.. Until theses programs including SDSU opens their eyes, UCONN wi continue to win championships.

Great Now UCONN fans want us in their brackets for perpetuity because we're their good luck charm 😂 The championship goes through San Diego State! You can't win the title unless you can beat SDSU.

Since every time SDSU has made the sweet 16 UCONN has won the natty, what are the chances we can get some UCONN boosters to throw some of their NIL money our way and ensure we keep making the sweet 16?

We need to find a guard like Cam Spencer for our program.
Guy was not a highly recruited player and was simply fantastic all season.
I like guards who can make shots and handle the ball.

I really hate how coaches at schools like Loyola bust their butts to develop a player like Spencer only to see him bolt to Rutgers and then UConn so they can reap the rewards. Schools like UConn don’t need to take chances on freshmen that aren’t sure things. Just cherry pick from those who do

I look for a different solution. Our defense speaks for itself so what we really need is to hire a respected offense minded asst coach to replace Acker. Preferably an older guy who can set the tone for the program's future while not retiring on the job, unlike what we've seen too much of around here. So when ready, hand the reins to a younger guy for continuity, just as we do for the defense. Imagine how far and how long we can go with a balanced team. I think we can pull it off because of our facilities and if we can maintain the winning program Dutcher has. We can attract players who want to win. Even with limited NIL money.

The limitations of NIL money on SDSU athletics can't be understated. And the wider the gap becomes, the worse the limitations will be. Fans can contribute until they've emptied their wallets. The donors, corporate and otherwise, that can flood NIL at schools in SEC, B10, B12, ACC, can always dig deeper - some of their pockets are infinitely deep.
And what do we know about NFL, NBA, and MLB contributions? They're already involved. So are many Fortune 500 companies. There are many examples. CHISOX Athlete, Panthers deals with FAU for their students to appear at Panthers games, sign autographs, etc. Braves have several University of Georgia and Georgia Tech athletes "working" for them on advertising. As soon as these corporations complete their workarounds to 'pay for pay' penalties, the floodgates are open.
They're already investing millions in NIL for their favorite programs/players - pretty sure SDSU and their student athletes are are not on too many lists of big corporate donors.
Wait until players start demanding to be compensated for their appearance in post season/championship type games. While it gets close to breaking the "pay for pay" rule - an argument could be made that one must first agree to appear before one can play...
