They’re going to beat Purdue, nobody is beating these guys. Smoke them? So if they win by 10 they aren’t in rarified air but if they win by 20 they aren’t? 10, makes it debatable. 20, i dont think there is any choice but to crown them. So you don’t think Purdue is very good so UConn must “smoke them” to crown themselves as an all time great. Got it.

At this point in the Tournament, I don't remember any previous team being so dominant over the rest of the field game after game after game. if they smoke Purdue, i think you are right. He said “at this point”. That means today. Purdue game wouldn’t be factored into “at this point”. LOL

Great team no doubt, but it’s also alarming how many wide open shots their opponents are missing. SDSU, Northwestern, and now Illinois just missing open three after open three. Does UConn affect this, to some degree, but they’ve also been fortunate.

The Wooden UCLA teams with Alcindor and Walton were about this dominant it seemed..but not much else. Maybe the Indiana unbeaten team.

UConn is doing this to Illinois despite only shooting around 20% from 3 point range. UConn on a bad shooting night is up 30 against Illnois. I don't think we have anything to hang our head about, we are at least as good as the 3 seed Illnois. We crushed Yale the previous round. We deserved to get to the Sweet 16. This game really shows that Thursday's blowout was no fluke. Illinois literally did no better. State could have beat any team in the field, except UCONN

We neutralized Clingon, but they destroyed us on the boards. Illnois got destroyed by Clingon.

If this UConn team can finish things off in the tourney they go down as an all-time team. Put em up there with the likes of '12 Kentucky, '08 Kansas, Back to Back Gators, '01 Duke, '90 Rebels, '82 Heels, '76 Hoosiers, whoever. These guys are showing that they may be that good. I agree. This is the best college team I’ve seen in memory. What’s weird is I’m trying to figure out how they are SO good? They grabbed a couple portal guts from mid majors and they are both GREAT. One an All American, the other also playing like one I that game, Clingan was huge and that helps explain how they dominated. He really didn’t hurt us much until the game was decided. We had a complete meltdown like Illinois so maybe they have some mysterious ability to cause opponents to lose their minds. I’d have turned that game off when it got out of hand but they were playing such beautiful amazing basketball it was so entertaining They run very good sets, don't beat themselves, clean up the glass and have a likely lottery pick in Castle. They close on shooters well and can play a variety of tempos.

I only watched some of the first half and part of the second half, but what I noticed was Illinois constantly driving right into Clingan and him holding his position, and then either fly swatting it away, or forcing a horrible shot.
It looked like their early game plan was to try and get Clingan into foul trouble, but that failed miserably. They were giving up open threes, only to drive right at Clingan. That sure didn't work. If that wasn't their strategy, then that was just horrible decision making.
UConn is simply a machine. Super efficient at basketball.

But I don't remember them averaging almost 30 point victory margins in the Tournament. Walton's '71-'72 team averaged a 30-pt. margin of victory during their 30-0 season. They averaged an 18-pt. margin of victory during the NCAA Tournament, but only "squeaked by" Florida St. by 5 pts., 81-76.

When they're rolling, or even when they're not, there is so much pressure to score that every shot is magnified in importance and they become pressure shots, almost like FT's at the end of a close game. As much as I dislike Danny hurley's arrogant nature, he's got them playing some of the prettiest basketball I've seen in a long time, and I think teams know if they miss an open jumper that Uconn will basically turn it into a fast break opportunity on the other end. To your point, it's for sure in everyone's head that they HAVE to make those shots to stay in the game, and every possession compounds, especially when Uconn goes on a big run.

This game really shows that Thursday's blowout was no fluke. Illinois literally did no better. State could have beat any team in the field, except UCONN I'd argue that Purdue would have given us a lickin', too. Edey would have his way inside, and there are enough shooters on that team that somebody would burn us on the perimeter. Beyond that, I think you're right, we're in every game.

Edey would have his way inside, and there are enough shooters on that team that somebody would burn us on the perimeter. Beyond that, I think you're right, we're in every game. Well, let's not get crazy. I think this edition of the Aztecs would be in every game with the exception of UConn and/or Purdue. But that's quite a bit different than claiming we could beat any of the other teams left in the tournament. I'd contend that we'd be in every game just because we have a stout defense and do well in rock fights, cuz that's just how we roll. But being able to beat any of the other teams? Nah. Heck, we were in every one of our 11 losses except UConn and UNM, but we still lost because we didn't have the size/rebounding or the firepower/shooting to close those games. The same would've been true -- and likely the same result -- against all the other S16 teams. Duke, Clemson, Alabama, Arizona, Illinois, Iowa St., Duke, UNC? They'd have all clobbered SDSU. Not by 30 points. But probably by at least 5 to 15. Heck, even the much-improved Zags would've spanked us, I'm fairly certain. This team, which was clearly missing a piece or two compared to last year's squad, did well to reach its ceiling, which was probably always the S16. I'm more than good with that. It was a fun ride, and I can't wait until next year. Fear the Magoon.

Teams are dribbling up to the 3-pt. arc and the ball just stops. There's very little movement. Almost no inside-outside passing that allows the exterior shooter to catch and shoot in rhythm. There's little flow to the offense. Guys are dribbling up to the arc and looking around while UConn backs off and dares them to shoot. The offensive player invariable takes the bait, dribbles a couple more times and then launches a shot, which clanks, falls into the hands of one of the four UConn guys surrounding the rim, who fires to the outlet guy, who tosses to the guy on the break, who goes in for an easy layup. Crazy.

It also shows me how good LeDee is. He really did an amazing job stopping their big while giving up 6 inches and probably 70 pounds.
