Stanford/Cal jumping from Titanic to Lusitania. Not as smart as they look I guess...

Agreed. Rumor on the street is that Stanford is offering up to the ACC CAL and Stanford at 1/2 shares for the balance of their contract. ACC distributes $40M per annum. $30M TV and $10M NCAA other. It likely happens, my new general rule of thumb is that if helps the Aztecs it won't happen and if it hurts the Aztecs it will happen. It sure seems that way. Pretty much sums up my lifetime as a SD sports' fan in general. Case in point, I'm at work and I see the Pads are up 5-0 and looking good for a split with the Dodgers, which considering where the Pads have been and Musgrove's shelving is a great result. I just checked the ticker again and it's now 13-6 Dodgers. Typical. Oh well, we'll always have LB5's shot and a new stadium that we never thought would get built.

I doubt Stanford would be caught dead in a conference with us. Their kind of arrogance isn’t going away. and that goes for Cal too.

Ok, I'm done. The Aztecs are not moving to MW 2.0 within the PAC shell and the MW is not adding any teams. OSU, WSU, Stan, and Cal will soft land. State can't push through.
And with these moves by the conferences and TV, there is nothing left for the MW to negotiate. It is ESPN+ or CBSN. FOX and ESPN have late night kick via the B10 and big12.
That is the biggest blow to the MW. They will be out of sight and out of mind.

The “Depressed Ginger” is speculating that Oregon St and SDSU are in preliminary talks with the Big 12. Stanford will probably go Big 10, MW will merge with what’s left of the PAC.

Reality check: Without USC, UCLA, Washington, Oregon and Utah this will be a very mediocre conference. Sorry to break this to you guys, but this “new PAC” will just be the Mountain West plus. Reality checking your reality check: If SDSU can somehow join the same conference as Stanford, Cal, Washington State and Oregon State, it would be a significant upgrade for SDSU… even with other MWC schools rounding out the new conference. Wow, your optimism is commendable. The reality is (I’ll try again) without Oregon, Washington, U$C, UCLA, Utah and the Arizona schools the PAC is diminished into the conference of also rans….basically the MWC. Without those schools, it won’t be worth the MWC exit fee for a lateral move. Stanford and Cal will be looking to migrate to the Big 10 very soon. No way does Cal and Stanford want to schedule Fresno and San Jose every year, golf on their courses or swim in their pools. They have elitism oozing out of their pores and will never associate with the red neck commuter colleges. SDSU’s best case scenario would be to slide into the Big 12 (with Oregon St) and they should do whatever needs to be done to make that happen. If not it’s MWC in perpetuity for the Aztecs.

I just don't see the ACC adding just Stanford and Cal, travel would be a killer. Add 5 western schools to get to twenty and then have 4 pods of 5 with two rounds of playoff games in football. That might make some sense but still travel would be worse than it is for the western schools in the B1G.

The next tv contract for MWC 2.0 is going to be sad. Im hoping those program that invest to get better will have incentives built into them. Not all programs in this conference is built differently.

State needs to nut up and form the botr conference and stop playing by the rules. We can’t sit around wait anymore.

I highly doubt SDSU admin is sitting around and doing nothing. The problem SDSU has, is we're a lowly valued pawn, on this chess board of realignment game, at this current stage. We were once, a pawn that was about to turn into a bishop, but things quickly fell apart on that front. Same goes for OSU and WSU. Not many good moves left. Just pawns. Stanford is a rook and trying to leverage its position best it can...

Stanford's incredible $ war chest, excellence across the board in all the non-revenue sports and elite academic reputation give their piece a lot of more moves than just straight ahead or sideways. That sounds more like us. If Stanford is indeed a rook, then they deserve a hybrid classification of a rook that can also move diagonally.

The P4 adding Tulane/Rice for next season and then the top of the MWC for the season after seems reasonable. That said, the P4 doesn't have a TV deal. What programs are signing up for any exit fee without knowing what the media deal would be? Even if the P4 used their savings account to cover all of the exit fees I'm not sure who is jumping in.

The ACC is supposed to be made up of high academic schools, at least some of them are. The presidents of those schools are obviously not if they think airline fares will be going down in the future. The airline Cheshire Cat is smiling at all this realignment. ACC has 14 schools, who will have to fly their basketball players to and from the west coast all season long along with football, baseball, soccer etc. ESPN will have to come up with $$$$$ to make that possible.
Oh, hope there are no weather delays!

Oh, hope there are no weather delays! The travel for the existing schools won't be bad as they'll only have to make 1 trip per year to the west coast, and even then, it would be at most half the schools every year doing so, so I believe for the ACC, they're a worthwhile add. It's Stanford and Cal that are really going to have travel issues as every road game except with the exception of their Bay Area brethren, will be a cross country road trip. But I must say, what choice do they have? They could join the MWC and take the huge financial hit, recognizing it'll be temporary as Stanford will eventually join the B1G, but Cal, who knows. They need the money desperately. I just don't see them doing it as although they presumably value their student athletes, they value their academics more (a lot more) and thus the ACC is a much better temporary spot than the MWC.
