Now I know who Abraham Lincoln was but not sure who you are.

The people and the political party that was primarily responsible for the incident you cite (and like minded laws for most of the South) claimed themselves as not being racists only a decade or so later. So it seems that Racism can be overcome by some racists in short order but others, who were not known as Racists then, are systemically so now.

The GOP during the Democrat Jim Crow South era embraced Martin Luther King's concept of racial equality and were not racists. Now, because of the Progressive Left's Neo-Marxist claptrap, the GOP is specifically racist because they still agree with Martin Luther King's concept of racial equality. The absurdity is mind boggling. Omar and Talib call out Israel and their progressive leftist defenders say they are not anti-semitic bigots, just anti-Israeli Government. Trump, for example, calls out the Chinese Communist Party for their malicious bungling of the Covid outbreak and we have Pelosi, Schumer and the clueless True Believers all claiming Trump is Xenophobic and an anti-Asian bigot. The hypocrisy is ever predictable. See the GOP platform. There is no KKK favored planks or tenants in it. None. Racist Neo-Marxists may not like the GOP platform but that has only to do with the GOP not accepting the reasons behind the left's raced-based power grabs.

And that started around the time of the nomination of Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court. The absurdity of and the need to manufacture racism then pretty much showed all that Racism was no longer the national scourge but rather was a political means to an end. Subsequent election and re-election of a Black President also defends the position that we are no longer a racist nation now whatever you say.

So then why do you believe America was a racist nation during the Reagan years? Didn't say that. The 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments and our Courts of Law were all protecting the rights of all back then. It is just that the attempted lynching of Clarence Thomas by the Democrats was a watershed moment. The Klan couldn't have done so well. Being treated the same as Robert Bork by Democrats and the media said it all. The threat to and reaction by the Democrats to the life story of a single Black man showed all that we were collectively no longer in Kansas anymore. And even now, it is no surprise that the Democrat supporting, Jeff Bezos owned company Amazon specifically demonetized the documentary movie on Clarence Thomas' life story aptly named "Created Equal". And during Black History Month, no less. And the Democrats think he is the oppressor and they are the liberators . If you disagree with me and think that Blacks were still oppressed in the late 80s, then how about now? Do you say that the Black man who was/is a state politician, Senator, twice elected President, a capitalist author, speaker, film maker, corporate board member, investor is "oppressed" because there aren't any brown colored band-aids in the pharmacy near his Martha's Vineyard estate?

You're wasting your talent on this board...you should hit the road and be on the comedy circuit: "Asian respondents who say violence against their group in the U.S. is increasing give many reasons for the rise, according to an open-ended question in which people responded in their own words. Some 20% directly cited former President Donald Trump and his rhetoric about China as the source of the pandemic, his racist comments or his labeling the coronavirus as the “kung flu” or “Chinese flu” as one of the reasons for the rise in violence. Some 16% cited racism in the United States against Asian people as the source of violence, and another 15% said the rise in violence is due to COVID-19 and its impacts on the nation. An additional 12% said scapegoating and blaming Asian people for the pandemic has been responsible for the rise in violence against the U.S. Asian population. About three-in-ten Asian respondents who say violence against their group in the U.S. is increasing (29%) did not provide an answer to the open-ended question. "Some cited several reasons together for the rise in violence against Asian people in the U.S. One respondent said, “Four years of Trump has normalized racism and bullying. His continual example of blaming Asians for the coronavirus is allowing people to openly discriminate against Asian.” Another respondent mentioned that “they are blaming Asians for the coronavirus pandemic, thinking they bring this to our country.” And a third respondent cited “a mix of coronavirus news and its origins in China coupled with talks regarding racial inequality. Asians are not accepted as people of color as they are seen as the model minority, but also are seen as foreign because they are not White.”www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2021/04/21/one-third-of-asian-americans-fear-threats-physical-attacks-and-most-say-violence-against-them-is-rising/Sounds to me Asians think America is a racist nation...... Too Funny! I knew you couldn't or wouldn't answer the question on how Asians outperform their presumed systemically racist overlords. Going off on Trump whataboutisms and an Opinion Poll, no less, does not surprise. You do realize that the Pew Poll was done in the wake of the Fake News onslaught that equated a psychotic sex addict's attack on sex workers as a Trump inspired white supremacist that targeted Asians because of Xenophobia brought about by Trump's desire to blame China for their lies and failures on the origin, lethality and communicability of the Covid-19 virus, don't you? And this poll was also taken after the "Summer of Love" where many inner city Asians were left unprotected by police forces where Progressive Mayors reduced police funding, stopped enforcement, refused liability support for police, etc., etc. Even one of the people quoted in that Pew poll showed the real effect of the Fake News disinformation. “His continual example of blaming Asians for the corona virus is allowing people to openly discriminate against Asians” Woman 40. As you know, Trump blamed the CCP again and again and not “Asians”. It was left to CNN and the others in the MSM to ignore the CCP’s culpability in the Pandemic and only go after Trump wherever and whenever possible, including the false narrative that equated his opposition to China as being the same as hatred of Asians. But back to reality and facts, the Asian's success in this "systemically racist" nation is current but also preceded the Trump election and the Summer of Love. Below are links to fact based evidence of that and, unless you can prove otherwise, say Asians earn more, are better educated, have a longer life and have fewer lethal interactions per capita with the police than their presumed white racist overlords. So we will try again. Can you or can you not explain how the Asians do that within the confines of a presumed to be racist nation? Link: Income by RaceLink: Educational Attainment by RaceLife Expectancy for Asians in USLink: Risk of Police Interactions by RaceI guess it depends on how you define racism: Definition 1: " prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized." Asian Americans certainly fit the bolded portions of the definition for how they are treated in the US (by some groups of people - not most people, I would say). Definition 2: "the belief that different races possess distinct characteristics, abilities, or qualities, especially so as to distinguish them as inferior or superior to one another."What you said: "I knew you couldn't or wouldn't answer the question on how Asians outperform their presumed systemically racist overlords." Well, Asians don't have to be believed to be inferior - people might believe them to be superior - but technically that's still racism. Perhaps a more accurate depiction of what you are talking about (Asian's outperforming other minorities) would be to elaborate on the cultural differences between Asian culture and, say, White culture, that might lead to different values and outperforming White people in certain ways. For example, if culturally Asian families prioritize academics, and White families prioritize sports, then its not really a surprise that Asian students do better in school and get higher paying jobs. not at all do to their race, but due to their culture. Regarding systemic racism. Historically, there was systemic racism against Asian people. Today, I don't see it.

I agree with this. I may well be the only member of this site who has taught Hispanic-American, Asian-American, and European-American students. That was at a San Gabriel Valley high school in the 90-91 school year.
I arrived at school very early on Monday mornings. The lights we hardly on. What did I see in the halls? Little groups of Asian-American students sitting on the floor with their text books open. Saw the same at lunch time.
What about the Hispanic-American students? Well, they were not all wasting time, but many were wandering around campus looking for a chance to draw graffiti on the walls. Asian parents were likely to ask why their kids were not getting more homework. Apparently those people were interested in doing whatever it took to succeed, no matter what prejudice they encountered.
One cannot have it both ways. It makes no sense screaming that European-Americans are keeping you down and at the same time counting on European-Americans (who are dedicated racists, right?) to transform your situation in life. Anyone who feels that he/she is facing obstcles in trying to achieve one's life goals ought to read Howard Browne's How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World.
Browne's central thesis is that, yes, there are obstcles of many kinds we all face in life. But what one must do is focus on taking actions in areas where such actions are under our control. Do not count on others taking actions on your behalf. Is what Browne suggests an easy way to achieve success? Probably not. However, to expect others (here I am thinking especially of government) to rescue you is in all liklihood a recipe for failure.
Take, for example, education. Even in bad schools (which, in my view, means schools whose students are overwhelmingly NOT interestedd in learning) it's possible to learn if one is determined to do so.
How about Chicago's minority schools? I understand that their success rate in terms on graduating students who are at grade-level would have to improve substantially to be at the atrocious level. Somebody is running those schools. Are they people who do not care that their students are failing? Or, even worse, are they people who WANT minority kids to fail? Having known many teachers over the past seven decades, I never encountered one who did not want his students to succeed. Chicago's teachers (and many others elsewhere) are facing obstacles that they cannot overcome.
Replace all the Hispanic-American and African-American Chicago students (and the Eurpean-Americans, too) with Asian-American students and I GUARANTEE you that the success rate of those schools would soar! Yes, I know, saying that will make me a target of plenty of hate speach in certain quarters, but we have to face facts.
If this country were predominantly racist (which is clearly not the case), if would still be possible to succeed, provided that individuals made good decisions and avoided obvious social land-mines (e.g. early pregancy, not getting an eduacation, getting a ciminal record, etc.).
There is a long list of African-Americans who have succeeded, most of whom who lived in a USA much less open to minorities, in the 20th Century. Here are just a few:
Langston Hughes Martin Luther King, Jr. Roy Wilkins Duke Ellington Sidney Poitier Will Smith Ralph Bunche Barrack Obama
I know what some will say; that I am blaming the victims. Nonsense! Do you think the millions of minorities in this country who have succeeded did so by telling themselves every moring, "I am a victim"? I prefer to think that they asked themselves every day, "What can I do today to move me closer to me goals?"
