Josh Davis is still my favorite tranfer Nobody rebounded like he did Dude got ripped a new one by this board after first big game (was it Arizona???)... and then he crushed it at Kansas. He played hard. I remember watching our Aztecs at SJSU and Josh was picking his man up 3/4 court and hounding him. That's all I needed to see to love the guy!

Oh, this is a tough one. Can't pinpoint just one. I'll throw in Zo Wade, JJO, DJ Gay, Josh Davis and Pope. Zo needs more love in here. His dunks against Utah remain two of the three nastiest dunks I’ve seen by an Aztec. The only one better may be Matt Mitchell’s last year against UNM.

1. Xavier Thames - true leader on and off the court. One of the most clutch players we've had put on an aztec uniform
2. Randy Holcomb - First player in the Fisher Era to put SDSU on the map. Just to be drafted in the NBA let other future recruits know that they could make it to the league going to SDSU.
3. J. Franklin - Low or 0 star recruit outta hs and came and became one if not the most exciting players to come from SDSU. That running self pass off the backboard was straight crazy

I only go back to 2010, so mine are more recent than some, and basing it on both on the court play & off the court interactions. Definite recent skew..
1. Flynn (knew him pre-SDSU) 2. Kell 3. X 4. JJ 5. Yanni 6. Matt 7. Jordan 8. Jeremy

It was a little confusing to me as your title says... "favorite Aztec Basketball Player", not favorite Aztec Basketball Players!?
When I read your thread I wasn't too sure if you wanted just one favorite or two or three?
If, it was only one then I would select Kawhi Leonard. After that choosing others is more difficult as there are many worthy of selection.
*Just a note to you 'RB Aztec'. The two you selected Kawhi and Matt is very interesting. Because you know that both of those players are from Riverside?
If, someone else had selected Marcus Slaughter because of his rebounding, defense, and inside game he is another player from Riverside!
That would be a tremendous trio to have on your team wouldn't it?
My second choice would be Brandon Heath the all-time scorer from LA who was also a team-mate of Slaughter's.

I notice that even though the question is to name the favorite player, singular, almost everyone is naming more than one. My only comment is that picking a favorite Aztec player would be like choosing my favorite grandchild. I just can't do it.
Not one of the choices above is a bad choice.

Billy White's alley-oop slam against St Mary's in the NIT? Kawhi's lunging out of bound to save the ball at mid court, flipping it around his back and following on with monster slam?

Both great, and I was there for them, as well. The alley oop was a bigger moment, no doubt, but not nearly as nasty as any of the three I mentioned. Kawhi’s extraordinary motor and physical gifts were on full display in the TCU dunk (as was Malcolm Thomas’ unselfishness to get him the ball back), but again, not as nasty as Zo (x2) or Matt Mitchell. All great moments. Deciding between them is a good problem to have!

The Matt Thomas to Zo Wade ally oop in the Pit is still one of my favorite plays I have witnessed. Memory fades, but I think Matt threw that ball before mid court and Zo stuffed it. Zo was an underrated, old school player who was fearless and fun to watch.

JJ did so many little things to help us win and once the yips went away after his sophomore season, he was taught to guard in the lane.

I'm going favorite, not best.
1) Billy White- Became the mold for the prototypical Aztec recruit; long, athletic, chip on his shoulder, hungry. 2) J. Frank- At 6-5 he boarded like a guy 6-10, refused to be outworked, and the back board dunk was one of the swaggiest moments I can remember in college bball. 3) Brandon Heath- First of the 4 year guys to be POY caliber, and never shied away from the big shot. CLUTCH.

1. Richie Williams 2. Lorenzo Wade 3. X Thames
Looking at everyone’s choices emphasizes what good kids play for us. All around great guys, on and off the court.

KL, Josh Davis, Yanni, Tim Shelton, Randy Holcom, Michael Cage, (can't think of first name at this minute) Allen. Not necessarily in this order?
