What's the latest on BRYSON WILLIAMS from UTEP/Fresno? His game and size seems to be a good fit for what the Aztecs are looking for. He seems to have dropped off the map nobody is talking about him anywhere and he really seems like a solid player on both sides of the ball. He is still in the mix for State

Really hoping we get Hall. With our existing players and the Transfer that can play this coming season Hall could make this team really special.

I swear we never get players who tease out a Top X for a week. Instead we randomly get someone to sign who isn't even on anyone's radar. Just trying to think of the last time I waited for a recruit's decision at 10 AM and it ended up being us. This isn't a complaint or a knock on the recruits who want to hype up their commitment. Just an observation.

Your right. Can't think of the last time we got someone whose short list we were on. Hope Dutch pulls another "unknown" rabbit out of his hat.

You have to remember that Dutcher & Co are looking for team players, where winning is more important than individual stats. Guys with the "Look at me, look at me" mentality probably aren't going to fit, therefore are unlikely to select SDSU as they've already been told that they won't average 20 points a game.

Guys with the "Look at me, look at me" mentality probably aren't going to fit, therefore are unlikely to select SDSU as they've already been told that they won't average 20 points a game. No doubt. I'm sure Bradley had a "top X" list, and he could have been a BIGTIME "look at me" guy. 10x that of Hall. He chose not to be. But if you're looking for high demand players who chose us over other big time competition look no further than Bradley, Gomez, Feagin & Flynn. All had a date they decided to commit & all were highly sought after. They're just not attention hounds, which is fine by me! Yanni selected us over Texas Tech - again, just didn't feel compelled to make a show of it. I'm sure if LeDee wanted to make his selection process viral & sought to have fingers pointed at him I'm sure he had other legit offers on his plate as well. We're winning the big time recruiting competitions, just not among guys who feel compelled to make a show of it and that's OK.

I believe that the lure of the power 5 conferences is the biggest factor in not getting the top players to become Aztecs.

I believe that the lure of the power 5 conferences is the biggest factor in not getting the top players to become Aztecs. Yet we are routinely better than the majority of power 5 teams. What makes a “top player”?

I believe that the lure of the power 5 conferences is the biggest factor in not getting the top players to become Aztecs. Most P5 schools have better broadcast deals, more national coverage and press attention. ESPN loves top schools in the ACC, SEC, Big 10, XII & B East. Beyond Kansas MBB doesn't exist. (Except the Zags). Mediocre ACC, SEC and Big 10 schools get plenty of TV coverage and air time. PST games at 7pm, 8pm & 9pm air after the writers have gone to bed. The PAC had a huge resurgence this year, little press or acclaim. The MWC & SDSU 53-7 little notice again. Shitting the bed versus Syracuse didn’t help either.

Tell Gonzaga how all of these things make it impossible for a west coast, non-P5 program to compete.

Tell Gonzaga how all of these things make it impossible for a west coast, non-P5 program to compete. Yes but Gonzaga BB gets the lion's share of their athletic funds. I have no info if their BB players get stipends and training table meals. Anyone know??

I have no info if their BB players get stipends and training table meals. Anyone know?? Like with all scholarship athletes nationally, they get the cost of living stipend as determined via their office of administrations (& based on cost of living in Spokane), and they do get the standard meals. I don't think they have their own "training table" (i.e. their own chef, etc.), but may be wrong. Completely agree that they are the primary focus of their administration, which is also apparent by the fact they charter every single trip. Even to Seattle. Not many programs can claim that. They're also the primary focus of marketing, etc., unlike 90% of majors & even mid-majors who focus more on football than hoops financially. Ultimately, they're not only the main show on campus, but in the entire town. There are no other D1 universities in town. Even several WSU alums would rather drive cross-town than drive 70+ miles south in a snow storm. Their athletes are BIG fish in a small town, unlike here in SD. It also took Gonzaga 20+ years of success to truly get to where they can compete on par with the top P6's, including some luck (you need some luck to reach an E8/F4).

Also, from a 2020 article..."The Zags ranked 27th in the entire country in basketball expenditures, outpacing every Pac 12 team except UCLA, along with other “powers” like Illinois, Arkansas, Florida, and Maryland. They’re in a completely different stratosphere than their WCC foes."
