Talk about clubbing the opposition! If, you want to lead a golf tournament, and win big, 7 birdies out of 9 holes will do the job every time!

After yesterday's round he mentioned slow play affected his momentum in the back nine. That affects even duffers like me. I hope the officials put the slow players on the clock like they're supposed to. I think he said his round took 5 and half hours. Hell that's way too long, even for muni courses.

Xander will need to fix what happened yesterday. If he figures it out then I like his chances. In all of his wins he came from behind to win them.

Xander birdied 3 of the first 5 holes today, and is currently just one back of the lead.

Disappointing finish for Xander.
Bogeys the Par 5 16th hole and finishes 2 shots back in 2nd place.

He finishes 2nd a lot. He’s got to break that trend and close a couple.

He finishes 2nd a lot. He’s got to break that trend and close a couple. Better than finishing 3rd, 5th or 10th a lot. He's won about 4% of his starts, which is up there among those who primarily just play the US PGA tour. He's not up there with Koepka (10%), DJ (9%), JT (8%) or DeChambeau (7%), but he's not far behind. Especially when you compare him to the Patrick Reed's (3.5%), Wolff's (3%), Simpson's (2%) & Finau's (1%), all top 17 players who primarily play the PGA tour. Given there are typically 140-ish guys who start each tournament, being among the top 2-3 frequently isn't a bad thing. It's not like he didn't "close"; Kokrak was simply better. X had the 3rd best round overall on the day & lost, and started the day trailing by 3 strokes. It was a great effort yesterday. Just 1 unfortunate drive cost him. But he played exceptionally well & would have "closed" on most days that don't have another golfer who's absolutely on fire.

When Xander finished second at the tour championship to DJ, he actually beat the field that week by 3 strokes. Unfortunately for him he finished second, because of the Fedex Cup format of the staggered start where he started 7 back. He actually go the most Official World Golf ranking points that week.
