You're only 4 years younger than me. I don't know what you were comparing the video board to when San Diego Stadium first opened, but I'm sure the vast majority of us were really impressed with it. Yes, buy the time is was the "Q" the scoreboard was dated. You do remember that we tried to get the scoreboard updated, but the Chargers wouldn't go along with us, don't you. In any event, I do believe the new scoreboards will be very much improved, even if not at the Petco level.
was there a video board on the original scoreboard? The original board was just one, big matrix board. They also had trouble early on with it (I think Cubic Corp was the scoreboard designer). They had to use small auxiliary boards until they could get the bugs worked out of it. The next board had a colorized matrix board in the middle, with one auxiliary board opposite the main board. The third one had video capability (1985 or so), with two more added auxiliary boards. The only changes since 1985 have been the addition of the other video board on the west end.

Well, when you put it like that. ๐ But he did have some very unflattering things to say about State. It would be interesting to hear what he has to say if the team outgrew USD and the move to Aztec stadium was needed. I guess maybe we could consider... just maybe. ๐ Never going to happen. A big $ group is going to bring an MLS team to Aztec stadium, and the Loyal is going to either go away, or be a distant second to the MLS club. Probably the former. If the Loyal DOESN'T outgrow USD, that won't look very good to MLS, and anyone who might want to bring a team here. Besides that, MLS wouldn't control the stadium. I'm not sure MLS would want to rent long-term to use a college stadium. They would probably want their own 20-25,000 seat stadium, similar to other soccer-specific stadiums that MLS prefers (The same thing Soccer City claimed they were going to build).

Looks like August 10th is the potential date right now for construction to start.

Party time! I hope they open this to the public, if not stream it live on something. I hope the Marketing department has something planned for this MAJOR event/milestone! Maybe something with a little SDSU history and flair involved, not just some stale ground breaking with office folk wearing shiny new ill fitting hard hats and vest. MAKE IT FUN, MAKE IT A HISTORICAL DAY, START THE COUNT DOWN TO THE FIRST GAME! Please no delays*, WE are not getting any younger here and a few of us really want to be able to attend a few games in the new Aztec stadium * somebody keep an eye on Bruce, Turd, Soccer City gang , Landon, Mara.......(feel free to add on here)

would also include a thank you to all the citizens who voted for the ballot issue and the City officials or others that made this happen . Plus SDSU supporters
In addition have how the area will be beneficial to all of San Diego County - more then just a stadium - great addition to the people in San Diego County
Invitation for all to become part of the Aztec family

I don't expect him to do anything else, as should this be held up somehow, the city loses out on revenue they desperately need. I also don't think anyone else you listed will do anything, as judges get annoyed when having to rule against the will of the voters. Besides, hopefully, Landon's team will outgrow USD's stadium, and they would need another, larger place to play. What a coincidence that one will soon be built just a few miles up Mission Valley.

You ever seen those old time aerial photos from when San Diego State College was first being built -- with canyons all around it and nothing but scrubland for miles in every direction? Just Hardy Tower and Hepner Hall and that's about it? Ever wonder what it would have been like to be there at the time?
Well... This is sort of like that. On the day "Aztec for Life (or as long as it's convenient)" Mayor Kevin formally waves the white flag of surrender and inks the deal, I will definitely head on down to the asphalt hell that is SDCCU Stadium to take a selfie on what I presume will be the 50 yard line in a couple years. Then 60 years from now, people will look at it and wonder "What in the world were those people thinking when they put all that black tar all over creation?"
I can not wait to watch this amazing transformation that I'm sure just about everybody here pitched on. I see it as our legacy to SDSU and our gift to San Diego's future. This will stand for 100 years.

From skinned knees and elbows and blackened shorts after tossing the football around, to quickly hiding beer bottles as patrol cars cruise slowly by, and drunkenly stumbling thru frat parties - getting dirty looks while on the way to a much better non-Greek party the next section over, even the often annoying people pushing their newspapers and magazines for a 'donation', and the long lines at the stank-infested porta-potties. But I'm looking forward to even better memories starting up in a few short years.

If we have games this yr with fans attending, entering and tailgating is gonna b a mess. With just the 2 entrances and the usual/past amount of parking attendees/policies it will b 10 times worse than last couple yrs. They will need to open entire east area and maybe take fence on inner circle down and open far east exit.

It maybe a $#!+show but it's our $#!+show and it is kind of a dying breed soon to be gone from Southern California (the wide open tailgate party) it's a dying breed that is basically extinct in the wild.

But I'm looking forward to even better memories starting up in a few short years. sounds like we grew up together, that's what I remember about that asphalt jungle. I recall late summer games getting there early having a few "drinks" playing a little whatever getting the blood flowing working up a bit of a sweat having a few more "drinks" then sneaking in a few more "drinks" enjoying all the scenery around the stadium and then realizing I was not dressed for the temperature drop by the end of the game (BYU 52-52, sick for 2 weeks) What fun it was to be young and .............. ***For you younger kids here, this may have seemed like we were problem drinkers who par-took in Binge Drinking or drank to excess, you are wrong. We may or may not have been hiding deeper mental issues that may have went back to our childhood activities not being constantly observed and supervised by our helicopter parents. This along with not wearing the proper protective gear (ie helmets) may have lead to some questionable decisions in our game time prep (and or life choices). Don't you worry, we were and are trained professionals brought up by the derelicts that were just ahead of us (older brothers, coaches, uncles, teachers, weird dude down the street, random alumni.......). Tailgating done right is a true art-form for almost all sporting events!

For you who live down there, could you answer a question I have? Is all this new SDSU land going to infringe on the retail buildings in Fashion Valley? Let alone are they still standing, since brick and mortar stores are going bye-bye. Shows you how long I've been away.

I'm guessing it's several miles from the stadium site to the Fashion Valley mall.
