Count me as one who ranks Rocky Long as one of the great SDSU coaches of all time. As well, count me as one who is very happy with his replacement. Check the calendar. It's the 8th of January; a little late to be looking for head coaches. We are very lucky to have Brady Hoke ready to take over. AzWm Absolutely. This shouldn't hurt recruiting as Hoke was already on the staff, had been a successful HC here, and was relatively/moderately successful at P5 Michigan. I wouldn’t call him moderately successful at Michigan. I won with someone else’s recruits and lost with his own.

disheartening that only 300 people tuned in for rockys retirement announcement, also disheartening hacksaw got the first question.

OC: Kevin O'Connell DC: Rocky Long a dream tandem. Ha Rocky won't be DC and push Arnet out unless Arnet leaves SDSU

The press conference was on KUSI too, not just on the internet.

heard Arnett interviewing at UCLA and u$c? If he leaves Hoke knows a great DC! The UT has a quote from Rocky saying he would take the SDSU DC job if Arnett left. Amazing!

He won more with RichRod's guys than RichRod did. 11-2 8-5 7-6 5-7 31-20 Overall That's moderately successful. The, "Savior," of the program, Jim Harbaugh, went 38-14 over his first 4 years, and has never won more than 10 games - with his guys or Brady's. Brady hit 11 wins in his first year, so, clearly, he can coach. There are other issues at Michigan that have continued to plague them, and that's why Harbaugh has underperformed as the program's supposed savior.

I still think Hoke is respected and he should be able to get good assistant coaches as he did when he first came here.

Hoke also beat Ohio State. Something Harbaugh has yet to do.

its been refuted in the paper that JD asked for staff changes, said Rocky came to him before bowl game and was considering retiring. the same people on here who expect alumnus to take pay cuts (rocky, KOC, Lindley) are the same ones who complain about there basketball season tickets going up 50 dollars. FWIW i believe Rocky will be coaching somewhere next year. also congrats to the head honcho of this board, hes wanted this since 2013. time will tell if the infact the grass is in fact greener No one in charge of this board has wanted Rocky gone. That is as false as Rocky supposedly quitting over pressure to fire Jeff Horton. Funny how either memory is faulty, or someone's motives in posting a comment like the one quoted above are questionable. But now that we've got Brady Hoke back, the architect of the rebuilding of the Aztec football program, I would hope that people get behind him and support him with the same vigor that they have Rocky Long.

Anytime you win more than you lose that is considered moderately successful. And, he did beat Ohio St. his first season, something the current coach has not done yet! Doesn't matter who originally recruited them. When you become HC they become your recruits, and it is up to you to coach them to win. All we're saying is Brady Hoke is a very good coach who can do a very good job here since he first put into motion a winning attitude!

A little full of ourselves are we That was put there to address the concerns that some board members had several years ago (concerns that I thought were unfounded, but presented to me) that my opinions as an Admin/Mod would be taken by those not on the board to reflect those of the board as a whole. I thought it was ludicrous, so I put that little disclaimer there to make it clear that my opinions were mine and not those of the board as a whole. Second, I've deleted zero posts concerning Rocky. But, you're right - I do move posts when they go wildly off topic, like this one. Any further posts that are about the Mod staff will be moved to the appropriate forum. Most people have zero interest in reading personal gripes about board moderation.

This is only acceptable if Horton is shown the door. This fiasco is all on him. I don't see how the question about Horton's possible return can even be asked since Wicker, Hoke's new immediate supervisor, reportedly told Rocky he wanted Horton to be replaced. Rocky denied pressure to fire Horton. Brady resurrected this team, and 1 year after coming in as DC we have one of the top rated defenses. I do not think he will retain Horton, so I think this is an awesome move.

Haven't posted in quite a while, but came in to thank Rocky Long for a remarkable run.
What a man this guy is, I have nothing but complete and utter admiration. Thank you for everything Rocky!

Seems our media department finally saved up for some microphones! I may be late to this, when did they start using them? I'm a young fan and coach long is all I've ever known so I'm really sad to see him go! I hope we're in good hands and am cautiously optimistic about what this next year holds in store! Are we still at just one p5 in UCLA for our ooc?
