Wait, I thought everyone was calling for RL's firing because he couldn't get to the next level and 10-win seasons sucked? Now, stability and the same is good enough? Lol. Recently, who was calling for Rocky Long to be fired? You mean people wished he'd "retire", sooner rather than later? But either way, it was never "everyone", right?

I sincerely hope they don't bungle this completely. Go outside the program to get an offensive coordinator. You have got to think Hoke has some SERIOUS connections, given all his stops up and down the coaching ladder, college and pros, these last 10 years. Let's see what happens. Hell, he seemed to have had great connections 12 years ago, when he stepped in. So NOW, WOW.

I'm sure it's a resignation, with a landing spot very soon to come with a P5 program as a DC. Would love to see him at SC to see if he can help clean that defensive mess up there. F#&K U$C!

With Rocky you knew he'd be here long term and not be looking for another head coaching job. But with Hoke it could very well be another two years and done. He's simply hoping to improve his national reputation to get another major Power Five job. Hoke is 61, with a failed stint at Michigan, and not being retained by Tennessee after being named interim coach for a few games, his days of being a hot up and comer sailed long ago. If he's successful and wants to coach he'll be here for the forseeable future.

Remember, Rocky got 300 calls for just one QB coach position opening. Take a wild guess how many calls Hoke will be getting since there may be a complete staff shake-up. Oldie Out I was told that JD got calls from some folks that would be “very surprising” to most SDSU fans and that everyone was told that there is not an opening, that Rocky Long is the coach...

Let’s hope that J.D. didn’t just stick his wicker in the wrong basket this time... it could come back to bite him in the AZZ-tecs. Time will tell.

For you all college offensive genesis who were crying for Hortons ouster including JD you got what you wanted. In the mean time one of the best college coaches to ever set foot on the Mesa has told you and JD to "stick it"
Way to go JD and the no nothing cry babies!

Seems San Diego State was going to get left in a bad position regardless. Either no Rocky or keeping one of the most incompetent OC’s in the country.

When Hoke was here last time, he took a 2-10 disaster of a team and in 2 years we were 9-4, with 2 losses coming to the #2 and #12 ranked teams by a total of 8 points. His stint at Michigan is well documented, but some of the negativity about him seems misguided.

Hoke also took Ball State to a 12-1 record. It's not like he forgot how to coach.

He is a much better position coach than head coach. Stability is great, but if you want to break through to the elite level, you need to go outside the program. They just don't have the resources or funds to do it. Hoke won at the D1 level, Hauck did not. I would argue that it's Hauck that was a better position coach than HC and not the other way around. I agree. Hauck won big his first go-round at Montana. However, if reports in the media can be believed, he did so in large part by recruiting a number of stud players forced out of higher level programs of a kind Rocky Long would never have touched.

Fired, replaced, out, resigned, whatever you want to call it. A vocal group on here have wanted Long to be out for quite some time. Now you have it. We'll see what happens.
