I'm worried about what becomes of our defense within a season or two of Rocky leaving. I don't think that many people truly appreciate just what a badass Rocky is. Doing what he manages to do with overlooked recruits while the top talent is poached off by P5 schools, and still ranking near the top on defense nationally. Bottom line: I'm sad to see him go. This times a million. I pray to the football gods we don't go back to the Chuck Long days.

How about Long steps down as the HC and becomes the DC? No.

Rocky always demanded recruits be 100% committed or we'd continue to recruit and you might be left out. Well, he wasn't 100% committed so it was time to look elsewhere.
I didn't want him to go. I'm sad that he had such horrible offenses the past two years and stayed firm that he had the right staff but the wrong kids who he recruited.
I just want to see Arnett get a big raise and stay on with SDSU even though it'll probably just be a year or two. I want to see Hoke go back to a pro-style where we were 60% pass. If we don't keep Arnett and keep Horton as the OC then this was a big bust.

With Rocky you knew he'd be here long term and not be looking for another head coaching job. But with Hoke it could very well be another two years and done. He's simply hoping to improve his national reputation to get another major Power Five job.

Michigan told Hoke to can his OC Borges prior to his last year at Michigan if he wanted to keep his job, so he did it and got one more year -- 5-7. SDSU told Rocky to can his OC after his fourth 10-win season in 5 years, so he resigned the job.
That's Rocky. Gotta love the guy.

Hoke doesn’t have any thoughts about that right now, he is just a little older than Rocky when he took over... If Hoke can handle the job it is likely his for several years, like five to ten...

Hoke is 61. I'm not sure in 4 years if a major program will go after a 65 year old coach. I can see Hoke doing the same thing as Rocky. Do this for 8-10 years and then retire.
Also sometimes the grass isn't greener on the other side. Hoke has already experienced this first hand.

I sincerely hope they don't bungle this completely. Go outside the program to get an offensive coordinator.

Wait, I thought everyone was calling for RL's firing because he couldn't get to the next level and 10-win seasons sucked? Now, stability and the same is good enough? Lol. People were calling for Rocky to FIX the offense. Few were calling for his firing.

KOGO news just stated that the news conference would announce Hoke as the new HC and Rocky "will no longer be the coach". To me, it was an awkward way of saying Rocky Long is gone. Not, "He quit. Or he was fired. Or he was hired by another team."

Be very interesting and telling if RL is at news conference?

I sincerely hope they don't bungle this completely. Go outside the program to get an offensive coordinator. You have got to think Hoke has some SERIOUS connections, given all his stops up and down the coaching ladder, college and pros, these last 10 years. Let's see what happens.

Remember, Rocky got 300 calls for just one QB coach position opening. Take a wild guess how many calls Hoke will be getting since there may be a complete staff shake-up. Oldie Out

I'm sure it's a resignation, with a landing spot very soon to come with a P5 program as a DC. Would love to see him at SC to see if he can help clean that defensive mess up there.
