Why? He was the genesis of the return of Aztec football. He was/is well liked and respected as a coach/recruiter and has had coaching experience. Would offer continuance/stability of the program. My first choice was/is Bobby Hauck but, not sure that is an option now. Not sure who(we could attract/afford) out there right now? He is a much better position coach than head coach. Stability is great, but if you want to break through to the elite level, you need to go outside the program. They just don't have the resources or funds to do it. Therefore, we can't break through to the elite level and so Hoke is a good choice. |

I think a lot of you forget what Hoke did to revitalize this program in 2 short years. He got San Diego excited for SDSU football while winning in the hay day of Mountain west football with TCU, Utah, BYU.
I think its good to have someone in program take over for all the new commits we just got, and I think Rocky and Brady share the same defensive ideology, which will keep the defense one of the best in the country.
I'm just excited to get a new OC.

I believe the ceiling is higher with Hoke, but there is more risk of ruin. I don’t believe it is a long term viable option to remain in the MW as currently composed. Being a great, not elite, team that plays in some variation of the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in December every year is nice, but in terms of relevancy I’m not sure it’s that different from going 4-8. SDSU football finds itself in a tough spot. |

Let the football people make the football decisions. Everyone else, bring your pom poms.
The foundation has been set by Brady and Rocky about a decade ago, we're in good hands. Brady has a deep network of quality coaching resources he can pick from if any of the assistants should be replaced. I expect a Rocky Long disciple to continue the 3-3-5 (Arnett) and a possible shift of power on the offensive side.
We will see.

I'm worried about what becomes of our defense within a season or two of Rocky leaving. I don't think that many people truly appreciate just what a badass Rocky is. Doing what he manages to do with overlooked recruits while the top talent is poached off by P5 schools, and still ranking near the top on defense nationally.
Bottom line: I'm sad to see him go.
