One tiebreaker for split season series is record against the top team. Unlv and Wyoming have a win over Nevada. SDSU has a loss.

Wasn't the scenario last year nearly identical, we played UNM for the 5/6 seed last game of the year. We lost and ended up with the 6 seed. played last place UNLV and damn near lost. Played Boise in the quarters played much better and won convincingly. UNM ended up playing FSU as the 4 seed and lost. Our season ended on a 10:30 tip to play CSU on Friday night. I told myself no way we lose to CSU 3 times, as the other two contests were last second shots made by Clavell. We got beat fairly easily also. After witnessing that last year, I would rather take my chances playing only 3 games even if that meant the opponent being FSU in the opening round. Too many things can go wrong like losing the play in game to UNLV before you even check into your hotel Wednesday. I did say earlier that I wanted to avoid Fresno at all costs, but not at the expense of having to play and extra game.

One tiebreaker for split season series is record against the top team. Unlv and Wyoming have a win over Nevada. SDSU has a loss. We need to win vs Reno, since both WYO & UNLV beat Reno. We also need to beat Boise, since WYO beat Boise. We also need one more loss from UNLV. Reno is not the same team as they were before Caleb Martin got his Lisfranc injury and now Drew is out for season. They are signing guys off the football team.

The battle for 5th is going well! I believed the Aztecs would win the first four in a row out of the final six games, and set themselves up for at least a chance at a first round bye. My biggest question marks were Boise and Nevada. Nevada is still a huge question mark, but arguably less so with the loss of Drew. Play like they did against UNLV and they wax both Boise and Nevada. Play like they did in the first half against Air Force and they likely lose to both Boise and Nevada. Let's hope something closer to the former shows up.

In games against good teams this year that we lost (ASU, BSU, Nevada, etc.) we played well but faded in the second half.

If AF is an example of what you mean they had better start playing up or they are gonna be gone quick in the tournament. That first half looked like another one of their bad habits.

College basketball imploding news aside, SDSU took care of business this week. However it's looking like Wyoming is about to pull off an upset win on the road at Fresno State. Pressure is on to finish season strong against the best in the Mountain West at home this week. Hopefully with Pope back since every other program has decided not to suspend their players on "the list".

This season's a damn shame, as far as the Aztecs go.
I just don't see this team being able to overcome all the obstacles they will face beginning Tuesday.
Probably won't have Pope the rest of the season and tourney. But even if they have Pope, the potential scenarios that could play out are heavily stacked against us.
The Aztecs might have to beat Nevada and Boise twice each in the span of 12 days. That's asking a helluva lot.
Or, SDSU might have to play 4 games in 4 days. With Pope, your best game and some lucky bounces, maybe you pull it off. Without Pope, forget it.
And Fresno or UNLV could get hot in the tournament.
I felt that with the full team, the Aztecs had a chance to beat some people if they decided to play with the tremendous confidence they played with against UNLV a week ago.

Was heartened by the quick NCAA ruling clearing Miles Bridges. I know that's for a blue-blood team, but if our own compliance department can move fast on Pope, maybe we get him back by Tuesday night. Really optimistic, yes, but one can hope.

Unfortunately It’s going to be tough without Pope. I’m hoping he is somehow able to play in the MWCT. I felt this team was starting to really play together and about to get hot. Still excited to see the young guys step up. Will only prepare them for next season.

I believe they can win the conference tourney, just need a couple guys to get hot from 3, Montana, Schakel, Mitchell, and yes even Kell. Continue to play improved D and you never know, maybe we go dancing once again.

Current conference win streaks: Nevada - 4 SDSU - 4 Pope status is current biggest question mark for Aztecs. With him, Boise is probably beatable at home and Nevada is possibly beatable. Without him, much tougher haul. The first half v Air Force was basically repeated in the first half v San Jose. They likely can't afford that against either Boise or Nevada.

It doesn't look like there's any way to get in the top 5 without 11 wins.

Do we root for N.M. today against UNLV?

Do we root for N.M. today against UNLV? I think so. Imo, assuming we can beat Boise and Nevada, we currently want Fresno State to finish 3rd, UNLV to finish 6th/7th, UNM to be 4th.
