Great player, would take him in a heart beat... Would like to see Nathan Mensah and Mason Forbes. I could see Mensah or Forbes, but not both. I think the only way we don't save a spot for a transfer is if Timmy Allen commits (or some elite recruit not on radar). I just don't see us taking 3 bigs unless we don't think there are any in '19 we can get and we believe we can RS 1 of the 3.

We do need at least one more guy that can play the 5 - depends on if Nathan does actually commit - or we add Mason ? Or ? A visit in person to see how guys play is important .
The "Bigs " that have been named are quality guys but still need to see how they do against guys their own size - with speed and physical play . Not always easy to judge in HS guys and time it takes them to hit their prime .
Also do not know quality of the 2019 guys and actual chance we have to sign them .

Not always easy to judge in HS guys and time it takes them to hit their prime . Also do not know quality of the 2019 guys and actual chance we have to sign them . Yesterday was such a nice reprieve. By now we know "how a guy plays" very well, and they know how we play. If they're still talking to us & us to them then there's a fit. We, as in the people on this board, don't know the quality of the 2019 guys (for the most part) and the chance we have to sign them, but the coaching staff does. They have a read on all the players they're talking to. It may not be close to 100%, but they can at least categorize them into "no chance"; "a shot" and "great relationship", and they know enough to know if there is a small, average or large crop of Guards/Wings/Posts available who we are interested in. A few come out of the woodwork along the way, but they have a good feel. I would guess our priority list right now runs something like: 1. BPJ 2. N Mensah 3. Forbes But who knows? It may be a case of 1st come, 1st served, or it may be a case of 1 being a priority & the others being conditional on him not committing? But can't see us taking more than 1 unless they don't see any/many 4's/5's in the '19 class. I also don't see 3 guys committing who have fairly similar skill sets, but again, who knows?!

I would be v surprised if we don't get Nathan next month. It sounds/looks like Joel can play the 5, but Nathan is much more of a traditional big.
I like Forbes, but if we get Nathan I also don't know if the fit would be mutual anymore.
Gringo seems to have connections to the EYBL guys and has been pretty sure we'd get both Mensahs.

BP-J would be tremendous, but with him currently having All the PAC schools , plus Kansas ,Kentucky .... wonder if we are still in the running to sign him .
More likely hope Nathan or Mason are available . Believe the Ducks are still trying to get Nathan .
As was the case with BP-J - guys can be under the radar when we are talking with them and then they light it up and the Big Name schools are chasing them . Especially for the guys who play the 5 or 4 and can have late development . That is why it can be very unpredictable who we can actually sign for 2019 . Coaches could have a good handle on it but things can change very quickly when it comes to recruiting.
Do think If we have a quality OOC and then get into MM , can help the recruiting for 2019 and beyond.

I really want to see Forbes, Mitchell and Campbell on the floor together. Add Watson and one Mensah for some additional fun. WOW!
And throw in a dash of more Mensah for even higher energy.

Do think If we have a quality OOC and then get into MM , can help the recruiting for 2019 and beyond. I wouldn't have thought so until we signed his teammate Mitchell. Now, who knows? Oregon is after both BPJ & Nathan and doubt they get both. Plus, whoever goes there will have White, Wooten, Norris & Cage with more experience, so again, who knows? If BPJ goes there maybe Cage is a mid-year bounceback? Yes, things evolve over time but that happens every year. The staff can determine whether they are more or less bigs on the market in the 2019 class compared to this same time last year with the 2018 class. It's not hard to determine if a class if PG, G, Wing or Post heavy in your region or not. You often know that a few years in advance and can gauge if there is a better/worse chance of landing a kid as a result. Need also comes into play. You can tell the staff was leaning towards bigs in this class & really putting time in on a few PG's in next years class.

gundoaztec: Thanks for catching my error. I have now fixed it.
Got so excited about this guy that I'm stupidly calling him "Mitchell Matthews." Thanks for sobering me up!

Aztecshoopsnation reports that Mr. Forbes will be visiting this week. Always good to be first on the list.

Would love to have Forbes and Nathan Mensah both commit. You can't teach height and I'd rather overload with it than hope we can land someone next year.
