Arizona could be out, but who knows. MSU is already loaded in the front court so he wouldn't be a focal point there. Oregon, UNLV and SDSU make the most sense for playing time. Even with McCoy I doubt UNLV would be able to win the regular season so I'm not sure why they are in the running for McCoy.

I forget the exact connection at UNLV, but his AAU coach / caregiver has ties to UNLV. I'd guess we have about a 1% chance of landing McCoy.

I forget the exact connection at UNLV, but his AAU coach / caregiver has ties to UNLV. I'd guess we have about a 1% chance of landing McCoy. Don't give up hope. We're still in the running until we aren't. Shaun "Ice" Manning is an AAU coach who lives in San Diego. I'm not sure of Manning's ties to UNLV or Menzies, but UNLV recently got a 2017 commit from one of Manning's former AAU players, Anthony Smith. In my humble opinion it would be a waste of McCoy's talent to commit to a struggling and depleted UNLV program. Manning has a long history of ties to local big men, including Jeremy Tyler, DeAndre Ayton, and James Johnson: McCoy: "McCoy and his guardian, AAU coach Shaun “Ice” Manning, were on their way to Michigan State for the weekend and unavailable for comment." www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/aztecs/sd-sp-azhoops-20161118-story.htmlJames Johnson: "Realizing he might need a higher level of competition and instruction, Johnson moved to Lemon Grove the summer after his sophomore year and lived with Shaun Manning, a coach his family had met at an AAU tournament. The plan was to play his junior and senior seasons at Morse High, until the CIF determined he wasn’t living with his parents and declared him ineligible." www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sdut-james-johnson-aztecs-workout-warrior-2012dec11-story,amp.html Jeremy Tyler: "Tyler’s father, James, cited disruptive outside influences. When his son was at San Diego High School, James Tyler forced him to stop working out with a summer basketball coach, Shaun Manning, because he was told that Manning had tried to sell Tyler to an agent for $40,000. Tyler said he considered Manning his best friend, although they had not spoken in years. Manning said he was offered far more than $40,000, houses and cars to deliver Tyler but denied accepting any money. “Jeremy knows,” Manning said. “That’s all that matters.” www.nytimes.com/2009/11/08/sports/basketball/08tyler.htmlDeAndre Ayton: “He came here [to San Diego] because of me,” insists Manning, who says he has documentation that Ayton’s parents granted him legal guardianship." hs.utpreps.com/news_article/show/480554

If the latter tweet is true, then his only real option may be UNLV. Oregon might be a possibility if Bell leaves, as they'll be going thru a major transition year & will need McCoy to score. If Bell returns McCoy's ability to make an impact will be significantly reduced, although they could coincide (he just wouldn't be THE guy). MSU has a ton of bigs next year; same with UA. He won't be an impact player at either location. He can make an impact at SDSU & UNLV, & possibly UO. The question is how much does he want to stay home vs. get away from home? Sometimes that's a critical factor - not every kid wants to play college ball in their home town. As Stan alluded to, this may not happen until mid-May, after all the dust has settled with the draft & other commits/signees. PS. We don't need an official "in home" - he hangs with our players, and has been to Viejas & on campus often with his family. In-homes are to sell the staff & school to the family - we've already done that.

Have No inside information . But do wonder how Brandon felt being on his HS team that did not do as well as expected during the HS season or during the CIF playoffs. Did it leave any impression on the kind of College team he wants to play for . ? Zach Collins did not even start for Zags but is considered an NBA first round choice . Ducks also seemed to really enjoy this season . MSU could be very good next year and he played with a top recruit in All star games . SDSU and UNLV he could be the star ,if they run the offense through him but good enough for a good run in MM ?
He is the second best HS center still unsigned out there .
So he can go any way he chooses for any reasons he prefers . Most of his choices are going to leave the scholarship open for him to choose when he prefers . Could be this week or after the NBA situation or other HS guys finally decide .
Yes he has spent time here in San Diego . We could use the visit , with its newer HC some time at an in home - now that Dutcher is the HC , for Dutcher to say if things in the offense will be adjusted . But he has the final say what works for him .

I would be shocked and elated if McCoy decides to play on the Mesa.

I understand if he goes to Oregon...I won't understand if he goes to UNLV.
UNLV finished last in a bad conference and a bunch of players transferred out. Oregon was first in a very good conference and made the Final 4.

I understand if he goes to Oregon... I won't understand if he goes to UNLV. UNLV finished last in a bad conference and a bunch of players transferred out. Oregon was first in a very good conference and made the Final 4. They offer a lot of what SDSU would offer - Big man on campus; opportunity to make an impact and get big minutes; great facilities; strong overall program. They're on the rise, but agree even with him they're a NIT team at best next year. However, it's Vegas, and it's also a chance to be the BIG guy while also getting away from home. Some kids simply want to get away from home (but stay semi-close). Oregon is interesting right now. Bell leaving opens the door for McCoy (& Cage), BUT unless they add a grad transfer or two they're going to be in transition for a year or two. Brown's terrific, but their "vet" leader right now is Pritchard, who's just a Soph & not someone who can carry a team; White - who redshirted but is good; and Bigby-Williams, who didn't play much. Even with McCoy that's not a S16 team. MSU & UA are E8 teams with or without McCoy, which means he won't be the BIG guy & won't make an impact on their teams, which he's stated is very important to him. If getting to a F4 is important to him then those 2 would be the right choice, realizing it may come with not starting. I'd rank it Oregon #1, then UNLV/SDSU depending on whether he wants to play at home or get away from home.

Huge surprise out of Oregon.. Unfortunately it might be because he has a feeling McCoy would be going there so he'd get very limited playing time The Aztecs had recruited him last year and there is a relationship. Assuming he's not a grad transfer, then he's planning to sit out a year to play a year wherever he goes. If he's ahead on credits (seems unlikely since he came the juco route), maybe he's got a shot to graduate this summer and play somewhere next year. He averaged just 10 minutes per game last year, typically logging 8 or fewer minutes. No surprise he might want to leave, regardless of whether McCoy is heading there. More future minutes on the SDSU roster for a guy like this than at Oregon.

Great point about K B-W . Sits next year then plays 1 the year after or lower division school ? .
McCoy , wonder now if he sits back and takes a closer look at what he wants .? Every one has a different interpretation ? He could go in any direction depending on what is most important to him ? Total Jump Ball ?
