Are there any Utah Aztecs that support the move to the Big East??? I for one do not. Here is why. The people who are arguing that SDSU should make this move have nothing but TV money on their minds. It really doesn't have anything to do with deserving. Nonetheless, if you are talking about a winning tradition or a strong fan base you are just kidding yourself. Besides TV money, SDSU has nothing to go on. I understand what the BE is doing. They are desperate and are trying to corner the West Coast market. However, corning it with SDSU is mind boggling. There are only 4 million people in San Diego County. Not sure people in LA are going to run to their TV's when the Aztecs play Rutgers, Houston or a team from Florida not named UF, FSU or Miami. SDSU does not have a big fan base outside of San Diego. The rest of the West Doesn't care about SDSU. If you are talking strictly about a TV market then you could say Boise doesn't deserve to be in as well. If this whole things fails, SDSU could lose football and their basketball program will be in nowhere land. SDSU is burning a lot of bridges right now while eliminating some decent rivalries. Again, if the BE move doesn't work out, then what?? You think the schools and conferences who SDSU snubbed yet will survive without big TV money are going to welcome back the Aztecs with open arms?? Think again!! If the TV money is there great. If it's not... Let's not forget the BE is losing its AQ status meaning the big BCS money is all but gone. I am against this BE move. It doesn't mean I am not an Aztec. It means I'm a concerned one. How about putting a winning product on the field on a regular bases and fill the Murph. That can't hurt. Gee. A paaalus uno. Those of us that share your concerns have been vilified as non-supportive of the athletic program. Keeping it real, I'm quite proud of the undergraduate degree I received at State and I'll take that pride to my grave. But I've long believed SDSU athletics has been more of a burden than as asset to the University. Yes, community support for football has been marginal at best, but the fact is when you can count the number of winning seasons since Claude Gilbert left on two hands, well there you go. Yes, basketball, both men's and women's, has been exceptional the last decade, but that's the exception to the rule. Personally, I resented Utah's move to the PAC-10, (and I would love nothing better than to see the program fall in stature), but the fact is, they deserved it. The decisions made over the football coaching hires the last decade, which truly energized its fan base, an incredible stadium that sells out every home game and BAMM!!, another legitimate revenue stream for the PAC-10. I also believed that had the Aztecs stayed in the MW they could have ACTUALLY!, FINALLY! raised this football program to a level of success not seen in decades. (IT IS STILL ABOUT WINNING for so many reasons, success building on success and all that..). But given the logistical challenges that awaits this program I see nothing but more mediocrity as the travel demands take their toll. It would be one thing if the program was truly ascending to a better program as a result of their success, but the fact is it's moving from one mediocre program to another and that's with the current inclusion of CVG and Loo-A-ville. That said, the freaking money better be worth it.

I hear you!! You might even be challenged to fight after school for keeping it real. I respect you guys as fans and I guess I understand your argument, but answer me this: What's the point of winning ten games a year against substandard competition? We've already done that once. Where did it actually get us? It sounds to me as though you want us to be adult champions of what amounts to a 14-and-under league. At least to me, that doesn't sound like much fun. John, I get what you are saying. But isn't the BE kind of headed for substandard competition with all the good schools leaving? Don't you have to ask yourself what the top schools were thinking bailing out of the BE?? And yeah, we did it once in the last who knows. My concern is, what happens if it doesn't work out?? Does that mean SDSU loses football?? Becuase, that would really suck. Like RA said, I hope the money is worth it!!

Odds of SDSU losing football because of moving to BE <<<<<<<< odds of losing football due to staying in MW. Period. In fact, there aren't nearly enough "less than" signs there...

Will you bail us all out and pay for football and all the other sports as well??? Worrying about the future is never a good idea since you don't know what the future will bring.

THIS^^^^ Exactly what these guys don't get about this I do not understand. They are worried about things they can't control and 'afraid' it won't work out because of their projected end result if it doesn't work out. No one here knows what the future will bring. But if you continued to go through life afraid of decisions made you will ultimately end in failure. Thank goodness SDSU is at least trying to save football and athletics in general.

With all due respect to the other posters but are we really still talking about staying in the MWC? I have yet to hear one intelligent reason not to join the Big East. There is no money in the MWC, no exposure and no chance of that to change! If we have any hope of being relevant in college football our future rests in the Big East. The worst possible outcome in the Big East is 10 times better than anything that will happen if we stayed in the MWC. Move on and support your team!!

If the BE is "substandard" competition, what would you call MWC? Staying or leaving MWC - both avenues involved risks. However, we took the path that required less risks because it offered a higher monetary reward. TV money, afterall, is what dictated these conference realignments.

It's funny that two of the loudest critics of this deal both live in Utah...coincidence? I think not.

So why would my opinion be obscured because I live somewhere else?? I wasn't happy about Utah and BYU leaving the MWC either. If anything being 30 min from two MWC schools kept me in the loop on what was going on at SDSU.

Yes, it is also ruining college football for a lot of universities and their fans. Why does it have to "ruin" college football for those schools? Is Utah State ever going to beat a BCS team? Maybe---and I'm being generous here---one time out of a hundred. The teams with resources insufficient to compete at a legit DI level can still play football PLUS they'll save a ton of money and not risk crippling their players in these bodybag games. It just seems like a lot of tradition has been lost. Sure the big conferences still have it, but things just don't look right at SDSU.

Well it sounds like I'm not much younger than you are, but none of the traditions we've lost over the years (or will soon lose) involves who we play. If you're talking about playing North Texas and Utah State, that ended decades ago. If you're talking about playing New Mexico, and if you'll miss teams like that and teams like Colorado State, then I'm afraid you're pretty much on an island here. There is no reason for anyone to question your fanhood, by the way. You've been around these boards at least as long as some others, and I do NOT remember ever having read that you're from Utah. No, not so much as USU or UNT, but CSU, UW, UTEP, FSU, UH, UNM, UU, BYU, AF. The good ole days man!! As far as Utah goes, opportunity called. However, I was born and raised in San Diego. My parents still live in the house I grew up in in El Cajon. With the exception of the beach, I don't miss it much. Cost of living too high in SD.

A winning record is good. That's where we differ. A "winning" season in which nearly every loss comes to a team with a winning record and vice versa is not nearly as bad as a losing record, but I would never call it "good." I'm surprised that you would. We've earned wins over teams with winning records John. You play who's on your schedule, it's not our fault that most of what is left in this conference is a bag of poo.

Sometimes I'll just ignore a thread for a while for no reason, then I'll look up and it'll be 6 pages and I'll immediately open it. Its like dangling a carrot in front of a dirt farmer's mule. I'm so glad I clicked on this one. Alumtec should drop the "Al" from his handle and add a "D".

My concern is, what happens if it doesn't work out?? Does that mean SDSU loses football?? Becuase that would really suck. You'd have to define the term "work out." If you expect "working out" to mean winning ten games a year, I've got bad news: it's not gonna work out. If it doesn't "work out," it doesn't work out. Life is full of risks. More important, life is full of challenges. If we can't cut it in the Big Least, maybe we shouldn't be running a football program. Just a thought. Will we drop football if it doesn't "work out"? Well, whatever league UNLV is in would be glad to take us. Well said on every point.

SDSU fans' arrogance shows up again!! OK really? Like SDSU football sells out the Murph? Take away the sky show and you're about 8-10K above Nevada's average. Yep, that Rutgers-SDSU is sure to sell out the Murph!! And before any of you start, it has and will always be the Murph to me. We averaged 37k without the Sky Show. That's was only last year, when you finally had a decent year. Bravo. What was attendance like during the Chuck Long reign of error? Or even the first couple years of Hoke? Yep, that's it, SDSU fans are arrogant, frontrunning bastards.
