Actually, the greater Reno area including Carson City has about 500k. Mix in the 2.5 million in the Greater Sacramento area an hour and a half away and you have 3 Million people. Your point about putting 20k in the stands with 1/8 the population of San Diego is a valid one. However, their games look full because UNR's Stadium only holds 29k. The arguement is kinda weak...and hour and a half away? Then SDSU should have no problem filling the Murph if you include Los Angeles. Reno is a small podunk town, smaller than most people think. Mind you that it can be a bitch to travel from Sac or SF to Reno in the mid-late fall if there is any precipitation. 100 miles from Sac and 200 miles from SF. Try driving from SF to Reno on a fall Friday evening in perfect weather...

until 1985 Nevada had the smallest population in the country. Lower Nevada propagated like Guinea pigs and now they are larger than Wyo and a couple others.... If you're going to just make stuff up, at least try to make it believable. Nevada is currently #36 in population. Alaska was always last until they passed Wyoming a few years ago. Nevada was #43 in the 1980 census. You must not have ever taken a Geography class from Erine Griffin or the late Larry Ford at State.

The fan base in Reno is decent, I was there when they played UNLV last year and there was a bit of a buzz around the city. It's too small to sustain a serious fan base though.

They will never have attendance figures worth anything....19k a games is approx 10% of the city....which is quite large, but overall, will never be a school with a full stadium. 29k is just about right for them and to fill it is rather amazing based on the demographic of Reno citizens. Exactly what I'm saying. What Wyoming does is even more impressive and nobody is arguing they would be a good school to consider for the BE. I am guessing that Wyo has about the smallest TV market of any Division I school. Laramie is in the middle of nowhere.

There is not a snowballs chance in hell that Wyoming would ever be invited to the Big East.

Neither school should be in the conversation for the BE.

They averaged 19k a game with the greatest team in the history of their program. The don't even belong in the conversation. I think the people of the near bankrupt city of Sacramento would travel to the Bay Area and watch Pac 12 football before they would travel out of state to watch a MWC/WAC team. Regardless, Nevada Reno won't be a walk in the park.

Nevada isn't any less deserving to be in the Big East than San Diego State. SDSU had be Boise State's partner, hope BYU couldn't get in, and be located in San Diego in order to get the invite.

It's not like we exactly pack the Q Who's saying we do? They averaged 19k for a team that finished in the top 15 though. What do you think attendance would be like for a top 15 SDSU team?

Who knows! SDSU has one of the most apathetic alum bases in the U.S. The stars have to be in perfect alignment to get 50K+ at the Q.......not counting the Skyshow.

Nevada Reno and Interesting typically aren't in the same sentence.

My point was, UNR is just as deserving to make that strange move to the BE as well. But with all the uncertainties going on with the BE, not sure they would accept an invite. UNR should compete for conference championships playing football in the MWC, and their basketball program just put themselves in a better position as well.
I just hope SDSU didn't jump to early with this whole BE mess. I guess we will find out when the real TV money is on the table and a contract is signed. Until then, it's just speculation.

And as usual they stomped our guts. I would be interested to see the Aztec's all-time record when there are 40,000 + at a home game. It must be something like 2-25.

No, UNR is not just as deserving. For that matter your OP to this thread might have passed the sniff test in 2008. There are times when it's better to remain silent and be thought a fool than...
