Thought I look at the commitments to PAC 10/12 schools. We are competing for similar student athletes. We know it, the recruits know it. So where do the PAC 10 school commitment sit today
UA 22 ASu 6 UCLA 11 USC 16 Utah 7 Colo 12 Wash 16 WSU 10 OSU 3 OU 8 Cal 8 Stan 6
Assuming 22 scholarships per school, there are 250 PAC 10 scholarships this year. So far they have 125 commitments or 50% are gone. That starts to put pressure on players who don't have the firm commitment, maybe it time to firm up the SDSU offer? We are not at the beginning of recruiting but at the midpoint. The premier athlete can wait and pick and choose, however the 3 star is under pressure to commit now. We may enter football season with a nearly full stable of recruits, good quality recruits. Keep on it staff.

If we beat ASU, UCLA, USC, Cal, Stanford, Oregon, Washington or even Utah for more than 1, maybe 2 guys, I will be very surprised. We can battle with CU and WSU no doubt, we have proven that. It will be very difficult to go head to head with the programs I listed.

Just for the halibut, I checked the dates our recruits for the 2012 class committed. Since there was absolutely no rhyme or reason to it, I'm not at all concerned that we don't have more commitments right now. Assuming we bring in a few of the more highly-rated guys we're after, we should be fine. Although that might depend not only on how many go with Pac-12 schools first but on how good a football season we have this fall.

They have a top 15 class but a new coach and five years or so of being a joke despite their great classes. You'll probably beat them for a guy or two.

They already have commits from players from GA, TN, TX, WA and UT. Regardless of how the program has performed over the past few years, the UCLA name is still very highly regarded. They can recruit nationally. They are offering a completely different type of recruit than SDSU is this season.

Sound familiar?

I was not a fan of his, but he's obviously impressing the recruits.

He put together a recruiting super staff but it remains to be seen if he/they can coach them up...

True, but please notice that at this point SMU is one slot ahead of Oregon in national rankings for recruiting, and one tick behind TCU. So they haven't quite tanked.

How the hell does UofA have so many recruits already? A nothing program with a coach that is coming off a miserable fail.

They have a lot of guys with no other offers. However, they did just get a commit from Jacob Alsadek, the 6'7, 325 OT from Torrey Pines HS. SDSU didn't offer a BCS level OT in their own back yard. He is too big I guess. At least we got a commit from a 255 pound sleeper OT from Tuscon.

We must like it that way.

However, and don't think I'm one of your critics for saying this, you need to understand how these rankings work this time of year. Rivals gives out kudos for simply getting commitments. So SMU is very high in the Rivals rankings right now because the Mustangs have 16 commits. However, five have been given three stars and the other 11 are all 2-star kids. That's really not all that impressive and not close to where SMU was at this time a year ago. Edit: Scout's average rating for SMU's 16 commits: 2.06. Scout's average rating for SDSU's 7 commits: 2.29.

I think SMU is going to be a very good "Western" member with us going forward.

SMU barely kept Jones around for another year. As you may recall, Jones accepted an offer to go to Arizona but rescinded his acceptance a day later and then they immediately hired Todd Graham.
SMU hasn't been drawing flies. If that continues despite Jones getting them to a bowl game every year, he's gonna be gone eventually.
