I have found great joy and have had many good laughs with the recent years of the UNLV hype machine getting worked over by "inferior" Aztecs teams, but I'm going to try to be much more objective than a lot of you here... If UNLV gets Bennett, which it looks like is a done deal to me, they will have the potential to be a top 10, even top 5 team in the country. Recent years have only proven the Rebels to be underachieiving, full of hype, without much to show for their "on paper" talent. Last year was probably the icing on the cake for us Aztec fans - watching a team with as much talent as UNLV had, only to completely melt down the stretch. Hard to pinpoint who to blame, UNLV coaches or players - but Id say it was a combo. New coaching staff, Rice maybe in over his head, and players who maybe weren't ready for the pressure of being a top 10-15 team. Who knows. What I do know is that if UNLV gets Anthony Bennett, they will certainly be the team to beat out of the MWC from a national perspective. ESPN/media and coaches around the country will be aware of their monster recruiting class and will assume they will live up to their billing... and I am honestly not prepared to count UNLV out as the best team in the MWC next year. They return a few huge pieces from last year's squad and have a great transfer in Jones who has been with them for a year, and with Bennett, we would all be well aware of how strong the incoming class should be. We had virtually the same team in 2009-10 that scraped through the MWC tourney to get to the NCAAs as the one that went 34-3 and rose as high as #4 in the nation a year later. Experience is huge in college hoops. Anthony Marshall, Mike Moser, Justin Hawkins and Bryce Jones will help lead a very tough UNLV team in 2012-13. The talent is certainly there... if they can keep their heads together they will make a serious run next season. I still have PLENTY of reservations here, believe me. We have earned our right to say "I'll believe it when I see it." All I'm saying is that they will have the talent that might make many Aztecs fans feast on a plate of crow a year from now. At the same time, we are returning a ton of talent ourselves and have a much better class than most UNLV fans are willing to admit. Like I said, experience is huge in college hoops and we will have plenty of that. On paper, UNLV will have the sexier team, but the Aztecs are 100% in the running for sweeping the MWC regular and tourney titles next year (as in UNLV). This is a fact. This is exactly what I'm trying to say. Bennett puts UNLV over SDSU when Bennett commits. As Shepard pushed the Aztecs up pretty good. Very good points. I don't think some of our players were ready for the new offense. Stanback, Massamba and Bellfield weren't the toughness of the team. They actually lacked that in many games. Stanback went missing if he was shut down early. Bryce Jones is the epitome of tough. Anthony Marshall and Mike Moser were the only ones at times that showed any heart and desire to win. These guys with the addition of Birch and Bennett will be a whole new look.. faster, bigger, more athletic and much tougher. UNLV fans do have something to be excited about. This would be the best class ever in the MWC. I'm not down playing SDSUs recruits and transfers either. Shrigley can become a solid starter in a few years and Spencer like Morant are some of the rawest but most athletic talents in the class. Polee will be huge coming off the bench as will Obrien. I'm actually intrigued to see who gets more time this season of those 2. If you guys recruited a legit athletic 5 man (pelle) I wouldn't even say this, but UNLVs paint will be huge next season with Birch, Bennett, Moser, Thomas and Lopez. Thats the only area I see Aztecs having a problem. Getting into the paint will be much harder. Johnson would have to come up big once he becomes eligible.

Rebel fans seem to prefer bragging over recruiting rankings on paper rather than the scoreboard the past few years.
Hmmm.

Your just mad because you have lost 8 of the last 10 games to us.. and oh yeah we are really going to miss your "power conference" go ask college sports fans east of utah to name 3 teams in the almighty mountain west conference you might be lucky if 1 out of 100 people can do this. The mountain west is NOT I repeat NOT a power conference. Yeah sure it's been a good basketball league recently but most of the recent pub for the MWC has been cause of SDSU. SEC and Big 10 fans just can't wait for the fantastic football rivalry like UNM vs UNLV. that will be a great game lololol Or the fantastic Basketball matchups of Reno vs Las Vegas... who needs Duke vs UNC the mountain west matchup of CSU vs Wyoming basketball next season is on everyones mind back east.. forget Syracuse vs UConn the nation has the MWC storied rivalry of Fresno State vs New Mexico. Once again the MWC is not I repeat NOT a power conference.

It's funny, having to dig for a 2 point win at home with the biggest crowd at T&M in years over a team with a seven man rotation. Watched Anthony Bennett played in the HSI tournament along with Shepard and I think we got the better overall player. Different skill sets and players, but Bennett cost his team momentum on more than a few occasions by making out of control plays or with a lack of effort. Until we start playing some games, all of this "paper ranking" stuff is null and void. UNLV will probably have superior talent. The problem is superior talent doesn't win games all the time. Dave Rice can't coach, nor can he get a haircut apparently. For all of the talent the Rebels had last year, they got bounced by one of the worst teams in the Pac-12. Same story, different year.

The one person would be true of a difference between 99 and 98 people out of 100 too...when it's one and zero you feel more justified in stating that but in reality it's the same $#!+, different pile (according to your logic--not saying I completely agree with any of it). Would you be high and mighty about the number of votes Ron Paul will get compared to a random Green Party candidate? I'd guess if we were talking about that you'd say who cares, they both suck. Basically, you're the worlds tallest midget. Congrats.

Their just mad because their about to sail into the Bermuda Triangle of College Basketball known as the Big West. 15-1 BW Champs LBSU #12 seed. That is because they didn't really have any good non-conference wins. SDSU will play a similar schedule as LBSU did last year (but likely more home games) and by winning some of those games, they will get a higher seed that #12.

To correct the poster above, it not 8 of 10 but 9 of 11. Ownage. It kills them to see SDSU pass them by as a program.

Wait, wait. So if you can pull 2 of those and I can pull 11 of those, does that mean I win? Wait, wait. Which one would you consider that means the most? The last one? I would...alongside UNLV with the best incoming players the conference and program has ever seen I think it's safe to say who will be favorites. Just wait until after Bennett announces...tides will quickly change in these "polls" that mean nothing.

BLACK AND RED TILL WE'RE DEAD! GO AZTECS!!
