Id be ecstatic to land Pelle. Would take AJ with open arms as well but he is a much lesser need at this point. Pretty wild to even think about though. Shrigley Shepard Spencer Polee OBrien Johnson Pelle January. That would be more talent than we have ever had on one team here and thats before mentioning our 4 returning guards. Im very content with the roster as is but if this is what we end up with that would HAVE to be the deepest team in the nation by far.

Reading this made me curious as to what were some of the most talented college teams (based on NBA draft picks) ever. The Kentucky team of '96 had 9 players that eventually played in the NBA. Several were top 10 picks - most of the 9 were top 20; all on the same team. Researched a few of them to see the high school accolades - off the charts. Seeing this got me to thinking; just how far can SDSU go nationally? I have had wild daydreams of the Aztecs just loading up on talent and drawing elite athletes from across the nation - may not be just a daydream anymore. Wow.

Pelle and January added to the incoming class would be absolutely, over the top, Kate Upton on the face, insane. LMFAO!!!! Count on us getting January whether it is this year or next. Depends if a scholly opens up with someone transferring out and if someone doesn't he will go to a prep school for a year and be here in 2013. It's preferable for January to go to prep school anyway for us to balance out the scholarship distribution (among years). He'll have the opportunity to ensure his full qualification, he'll get to play on scholarship at some prep school (and be more seasoned), and he'll ensure that we're not too heavy in this year's class, and the possibility of a redshirt still exists. Anyway, it's obvious how I feel about this topic, but I really think that this whole situation will be viewed in the latter perspective as time goes on, particularly if Pelle is the (or one of the) tradeoffs for any attrition among the current roster. Another point I want to bring up is how interesting I found it that Ed Lewis and I share the exact same perspective on Pelle coming here, finding it completely worthwhile and asserting that essentially dumping a lesser player for Pelle is more than worth it, to a ruthless extent. Perhaps it's a generational thing that I have no sympathy for AW if he were let go...

I'm not trying to continue any diatribe, I was just responding to two previous points (and bring up something interesting I observed in terms of my similar mentality to EL).

It's great to hear about our transfers playing so well in practices. I had no idea about JJ playing so well. That is great news and only builds on my excitement for next year. Much appreciated on the comments - including AztecTom (aside from his anger management issues.)

No matter how much the university "systems" and the NCAA protest and proclaim that athletics is a "student" issue. It is--especially football and basketball---a business...a big business. There's no reason to not be ethical in treating the players, but it is business.

Another way to think about the AW/LBF situation is both of these young men are in a position to make a living playing bball. Being on a D1 roster gives them that chance. The only way to create interest from a foreign team is to show what you can do on the court. AW has one season to earn an overseas contract, wouldn't it be better to help him find a place where he can showcase his talents?

They went on to win the national championship under Rick Pitino.

There is no chance January redshirts if he does come here, he is way too good for that, he is in the group of elite 4 seniors in Cali in my eyes with Grant Jerrett , Katin Reinhardt, and Gabe York. He is a lot better than Xavier Johnson.

It may be possible that January is moved to a 4-star rating on Rivals soon, they also had him listed at 6'8" now. Imagine the roster with two 6'7" [Polee, Obrien] , two 6'8" [Stephens, January], two 6'9" [Shepard, Johnson] and two 6'10" [Pelle, Spencer]. Talk about a stable of bigs to go along with what may be collectively the top 4 guards in the country [what other team has 4 guards as good as Tapley, Franklin, Rahon, and Thames?]. In 2013, bring in Prince, Bell, and Hamilton!

Not my fault I had to point out the crap non sense you were spewing.

So here's what i'm hoping happens. If neither LB and AW want to leave(I really would like LB to stay and would rather not force either out), then I'm hoping January goes the prep school route and Norvel Pelle goes the Andre Drummond route and comes as a walk on.
Pelle is most likely a one and done type anyways, so what is 15k for a school year to be a star on a nat'l contender type team that will likely get you to the league?! As Spencer is still a tad raw and Johnson doesn't play until after the Fall semester, this could work out very well for both parties. And if for some reason, if he didn't go to the league he could take Stephens schollie the next year as he graduates and help create some nightmare lineups(swat city with Spencer, or w/ Johnson-a big that can shoot).
Either way, I'd hate to force out either player. And would love to keep LB; AW is not going to see the floor at all with the bigs we have, so wouldnt mind if he wanted to go somewhere for playing time. If he did, Norvel could pick up the schollie and January can walk on or go prep school route.

JJ O'brien is going to be a stud for us. He is fundamentally sound and a great compliment to the freak athletes that will be on the floor for us next year...that doesn't mean he isn't a great athlete too.

Much appreciated on the comments - including AztecTom (aside from his anger management issues.) O'brien was hurt at the start of his time at Utah, but by the end of the year was playing basically the entire game and putting up numbers in the MWC as a true frosh. I have no doubt the kid can play, be a big part of the team and push to start.
