I'm more concerned about what he does when he is up in the air, than can he jump high. I know nothing of the kid, other than his name. This is not a judgement statement. I would just much rather here, the kid shoots lights out, than dude jumps high. This is a common statement read across numerous recruiting trails about athletic kids. Watching Air Force, I see few (at best) kids who can jump. But, damn can they shoot! Much more important in my opinion. To reiterate, this is not a negative comment towards him (nor Tom) just curious as to why that statement shows up in recruiting (I realize this kids already on the team) trails all over the net. Polee has a good shot. By having a high vert he can sky over people for the rebound and go up and over people to dunk on them. That is why vert is important.

No he's not, frankly he isn't close, but he can help off the bench with his rebounding and defense. Hmmmmmmm, that is what a person who is at practice everyday told me. I also have a friend who sees them practice everyday. Everything Im hearing backs up Aztectom's post. JJ is extremely polished and has very good fundamentals. Hell, look at how well he played against our amazing front line last year. Before the Shepard commit, I would have put a lot of money on him being a starter. With Shepard now, it could be a bit more interesting. A great problem to have.

Vertical is a great measure of athleticism, and athleticism equals versatility.

Athletisism is most important on the defensive end, also O Brien won't get minutes over Polee.

Lovin this (next year's) team more and more! I'm not disagreeing with anything anyone has said so far. It just seems like Fisher is getting a bunch of stud athletes, and damn that is exciting to hear! It just sickens me to see and know all the talent we have on our basketball team (even right now) and watch little (no where near as athletically inclined) kids shoot better and then win against those said FAR, FAR more athletic talent.
Is it just me, or are we getting a ton of kids who can jump like no other, dunk like a freaking Globtrotter, run faster than a speeding bullet.... yet none that can shoot an outside jumper! Please, please for those in the know tell me Fish is getting players who can shoot lights out! (and possibly who they are?)

I have no problem being "that" team.
As a coach, I sure as hell would not pass up on someone like Pelle or January over a player coming off the bunch, who may or may not see significant minutes on the court.
We landed Shepard and that's amazing in it of itself, and if Pelle and January want to come here as well, I say, make room. The implications for future recruiting are huge if those players can come here and have success.
My perspective is not one of greed or selfishness, I just want SDSU to thrive in bball and football from here on out which will help the university as a whole, and if we want to be "big time," and we have the caliber of players knocking on our door, I answer it.

In general you take athletisism over a good shooter 100 out of 100 times, athletisism in general means great defense and finishing in traffic, all a shooter does is basically make open shots.

Athletisism puts butts in seats (and out of them when they dunk like Jamaal) and 2 pts on the scoreboard. But while that is going on an outside jump shot, just got that team another 3 pts! Trust me I want both, work inside to get that jump shooter open on the outside. Seems like we are stacked on the athletic dunker types, just hoping (sounds like we got a few, thanks Tom) we get some shooters as well. That's all!

Athletisism does more to help the team win than shooters, the more athletic you are the better you are at defense, the better you are at driving which in turn means getting easier shots for yourself and teammates, means getting to the free throw line more, means being better running the break, this means so much more than being able to hit an open shot that needs to be created for you.

I hear you... not arguing it's important. So glad we seem to be recruiting it! These upcoming players are unbelievable if you think about where we were 10 years ago. I never dreamed we'd be getting these players here on the Mesa.
I'm just saying all these players, seem to be the same kind of player. I hope we are getting (have) that one guy who seems to hit every outside shot that comes his way. The great (final four) teams seem to have that player. From everything I've read it sounds like we are stacked in athletisism. More so than we have ever seen here at State. I can't possibly be more excited about that. Here's hoping they can hit their outside shots as well.

You can help a guy get better at shooting. Can't help 'em get a 40" vertical.

Pelle and January added to the incoming class would be absolutely, over the top, Kate Upton on the face, insane.
Assuming LBF and AW did depart to open up two scholies, I'm undecided on what the end result would actually mean...
1. The program known to back out on a commitment in favor of a better player coming in.
Or
2. The program that recruits from only the top-end of the available talent.
I seriously can't even comprehend an incoming class that would include Jan & Pelle. It's too much to even fathom.

Depends if a scholly opens up with someone transferring out and if someone doesn't he will go to a prep school for a year and be here in 2013.
